CDN ladies - the tampon tax gone as of July 1

I think only some provinces have the tax but I know we do in Ontario. Savings on pads and tampons - finally.

Sales tax on non-necessities applied to feminine hygiene products, basically.

Yes, I read that on FB. Hooray!

For non-Canadians, we pay sales tax on most things. In ON, it's 13% for most things but "essential" foods are not taxed at all. Milk, bread, eggs-no tax; Skittles and ice cream-13% tax. Currently feminine hygiene products are taxed at 13% like most everything else. As of July 1st, they will be declared "essential" and not taxed at all.

I am glad they fixed it. I can only imagine the protests for this tax would have been, unpleasant.

They taxed them at 27% in an attempt to encourage free bleeding.
