I want to make this cake for E's birthday, with changes.
I want the top layer to be ivory buttercream with shades of peach sprinkles. Can't I buy white sprinkles and custom dye them with my Americolor food dye?
Also, how the hell do I get the icing that smooth?
Instead of the Aqua icing at the bottom I thought I would do a gold sequin bottom like this. This layer will be fake. Do you think it would look ok?

I've never dyed sprinkles, but on the smooth frosting bit. Frost as you normally would, put cake in the fridge. Allow the frosting to get firm. Take your spatula and dip it in hot water and then dry the spatula off completely. You can then use the hot spatula on the cold frosting to make a ridiculously smooth cake.
ETA: You'll have to redip/dry your spatula periodically.
Very pretty! Use monkey's technique with putting it in the fridge and hardening the icing. I bought a special blade thing at the craft store to help get it smooth. It looks like a giant putty knife. I couldn't seem to get the regular offset spatula to work correctly and I kept getting an uneven surface. Anyway, that blade really worked because I could put the flat bottom edge on the turntable and just slowly spin. Super easy. Brb, I'll post a pic.

Oh, I didn't think of that. I use a straight decorating spatula.

Yeah, I tried that too but my hands weren't that steady and getting the bottom where the curve is was really hard.
