Roaches are pretty common. Both the smaller kind and the larger flying kind (palmetto bug).
I routinely spray my baseboards and door jams.
My H did not know palmettos flew. One came in the house and he tried to catch it. I thought I was going to pee from laughing so hard. He ran away flapping his arms and screaming. Ah... Good times.

My H legit fell down the stairs with one chasing him once.
Ugh. ROUTINELY SPRAY. But then it sucks too because you find them dead instead. LOL.
We spray monthly in the summer on top of our pest control. Palmettos give no fucks.

We have the giant palmettos here, too. Thankfully, our chickens really keep the population down. I hate those flying devils so much. Ughhhh. My parents get quite a few at their house because they have a pool and live in the country, surrounded by fields.
We have no roaches where we are but what we do have is black widows in the summer time. It's awful, there was one on the kitchen floor folded up in a ball and when I poked it, the thing moved. They like our garage which freaks me out because we have to be vigilant with the kids ride-on toys and check under bike seats. They also like the sides of the house and the bushes that run along the walls.

See while a roach may make me want to puke and cringe at the same time, at least it can't kill me.
Oh it's scary after you catch one in the house. You do get that image in your head of a guy wearing a suit and firing off a flamethrower at the house. Burn it all down.

I love how they call them palmetto bugs, like it almost sounds cute. But no, it's a giant fucking roach that flies. No one told me about these before I moved down here, I screamed the first time I saw one.
In Houston we call them tree roaches....or, agents of satan.
Soapy water kills them! University housing told us that and we thought they were trying to trick us into cleaning, but it is true. We had to call people to come in when we heard what we thought were rodents in the drop ceiling here - they turned out to be big roaches . Freaking green campus and not wanting to just kill all the things by spraying.
