I placed an online order recently and was sent a shipping confirmation and a UPS tracking number. I've been following it and last night it arrived at the local UPS center. It left the UPS center this morning, so I was excited it would be here today. But in reality, it now shows it left to be transferred to USPS. Why do they do this? We have a UPS guy that comes around our neighborhood all the time, why wouldn't they just have him deliver it? It seem like a waste to me. Is this common?
(note: I rarely shop online, so I'm really not familiar, and really just curious)
It happens a lot now. I would say 80% of my orders end up being shipped UPS or Fedex but delivered by USPS. It always adds and extra day. I'm not sure if it cuts down on shipping costs for the retailer or what.
I think it's called "smart post" when it's delivered by USPS. Yeah, I'm not a fan either, especially since our mailman literally throws our packages on our porch.

Our mailman is fine. The UPS guy likes to throw things onto the porch because he can't be bothered to climb the 4 steps. Even when it says "Fragile".
