My friends with little ones love the water park. Its definitely geared towards the younger set and it looks pretty darn cool Hopefully the weather will be nice; I've been house sitting in that area for most of the past month and its been overcast and cool most days.
If you like American history you might want to stop by the Green Dragon Tavern for dinner after you visit the park. Its got a free museum with a ton of American Revolution stuff and the restaurant has some good food.
I'm in the land of Francis Marion as we speak! And my family is picky as hell (except for me). I'd never convince them. I can almost guarantee we'll hit the Islands on Palomar Airport by the 5.
My ancestor fought with Francis Marion in the Revolution! Very cool stuff.
My confession: I don't have kids. However, if I had a little girl I would pierce her eares young, and dress her up in beautiful Christmas and Easter dressess. I believe every kid should at least go to Disney (World or Land) at least once as a kid.
Maybe it's a good thing I don't have kids, lol.
tacom - as you know, I have Crohn's and Colitis too. I always wonder if this would have affected my potential kids - or even if I could've had kids because of it.
I have a very good friend with Crohn's and she just had a daughter!
If you like rides/amusement parks, I don't think it's odd for an adult to like Disney. Now if you're obsessed, that's a little different. But it's not like all the parks are strictly little kiddie rides and have nothing for adults. There is alcohol, some decent food and fun/exhilarating rides at many of the parks.
I don't see people saying they don't understand why adults like Six Flags or Kings Dominion amusement parks.
I should clarify that I mean the kind-of-obsessed types. Not the "I enjoy going there sometimes because amusement parks are fun" types. I totally understand why anyone, of any age, would enjoy going to an amusement park. Disney included.
But Disney People are a different breed.
I know exactly what you mean. I have friends who have been to Disney more than once in the "fun vacation" idea and then i have "Disney people" friends who collect pins and this little action figure type things from the parks, go like three or more times a year, randomly check the aps on their phone to see ride wait times (when they are not in the park).
I will probably go next year to do a Disney race with friends and our main goal for after the race is to drink around the world at Epcot.
We are on day 3 in our new apartment. Unpacking has made me want to murder my husband.
The unpacking went okay for us because I generally unpacked and organized while Dh moved heavy stuff but OMG, packing. I got some totes and boxes that would stack nicely in the POD but the packed every since box overflowing because "more stuff fit that way"
I liked Disney. We took the kids last year and had a really good time. Good enough that we're going again later this year, lol. Our kids will be 7 and under fwiw so we kind of have to take them somewhere that is appealing to young children if we expect them to behave. The problem IMO is that WDW - the hotels, the restaurants, the tickets, etc. - is sooooo expensive. When you start to add it up and compare it to what other kinds of more adult trips you could take with that same amount of money, it starts to become irritating.
I wish I had a "thing" that I was obsessed with like Disney, Harry Potter, a movie, an animal or whatever.
And in the same breath I don't get how grown adults are obsessed enough to collect something. I just don't have any desire to collect things. They take up space.
I'm somewhat obsessed with my dog right now, but he's an actual living, breathing, interactive animal. Otherwise you are welcome to steal my collecting ideas : good jewelry, gemstones, diamonds, Waterford crystal, savings, stocks, etc.

Flameworthy...This is how I see all Disney people. (I realize that is not the case, but this is pretty much what plays in my head every time I find out someone is obsessed with Disney)
Related to the article on the 24/7 work life post...
I was just asked to run some testing for a work project a couple days after I leave on vacation.
I pushed back, but left the door open to potentially having to run the tests anyways. It _should_ only be an hour or two of work, at least. And I get no paid vacation (I'm hourly), so it would mean an hour or two of income while away on vacation, right?
I work with two people who went to Disney for their honeymoons. My best friend got engaged to her first husband there. I took DD because I felt it was my parental obligation, but I don't think I'll go back there more than once or twice in my life (once to the food and wine festival and maybe again with future potential grandchildren)
I guess my Disney related flameful is that I was really disappointed in Epcot's different countries when I went there last year. They seemed like mostly food and merchandise and not much else to do there. You can drink, but it's expensive and kind of cheesy IMO. Like the countries seem very geared toward spending money and not authentic to the actually countries, which is more what I expected for some reason. I guess part of my issue was I was there alone (I was in town for a conference and went to Epcot one evening just because) but even if I was with other people I'm not sure it would have been worth the money.
It kind of dampened my fond memories of Disney! I just wasn't feeling the magic I guess.
I have this one saved on my desktop, that's how badly I want to use it, but I never get the chance *sigh*. I'd be happy about using it now but I know it doesn't really count. Sorry, v, I hate to do this in your thread, since I how you feel about gifs. I would have tagged you, but I know how you feel about tags. So many rules .

Does this mean he's doing better?
Yes, his separation anxiety looks like it was primarily transition related. He was in a shelter, "adopted" and kept crated 23 hours a day, returned to the shelter as "not house trained" because somewhere in 23 hours in his crate he just couldn't hold it any more, then sent from one shelter campus to another. Now he's been with me 3.5 weeks and seems to be comfortable with the idea that he's home.
No more major destruction. Although he is primarily stuck in the sunroom with its own a/c and a dog door to the yard and not left alone in the main house any more if I'm not home. He's chewed on a pair of shoes I left out but stopped as soon as he was caught. He's doing really well in training class and generally is a happy wonder pup.

I'm over the "why don't you" and such. DD is graduating Kindy tomorrow. Other DD has choir practice for a special mass on sunday. I asked DD2 what she wanted to do, lunch, cake, dinner, etc.
She wants to go to Old Cou.ntry Buff.et (totally flammable!) I invited my family (dad, brother and wife and sister and her FI.) I'm not paying but if you want to come that's fine.
I'm getting why don't you go sunday? they have this and that instead? Or take her for lunch alone? SIL is texting me every hour asking if I got her a ticket to graduation. No I did not. They allow 4 tickets per family due to room. Me, my dad, sister and my brother wants to go.
I just want to yell and say I am going when I want to go and they want to go and that's it. Join us or not.
Why is everything such a damn flow chart process? I haven't had a weekend to me in 3 months and have to be at church at 2 Sunday and the last thing I want is to fight the masses at the damn buffet.
We don't have children, but getting together with our families was a complete pain in the ass until we employed this approach. "We're going to Place on Date at Time. You're welcome to join if you wish."
Trying to work out dates and locations with them was a nightmare. "Well, your brother's working on Saturday, and your sister works on Sunday, and I won't drive past 6 p.m., and he's on a special diet, and she's not going to agree to that, and blah blah blah blah."
And I truly don't get all the "but you live in such and such place and have so many better options!" thing. Sometimes you want real Italian food. Sometimes you want fake Italian food.
(Note also: most of the Italian food we find in these parts isn't exactly authentic to what you'd find in Italy anyway -- it is fake in its own way.)
I wish I could find good Italian food by work (in NJ). Everything I've had so far has been mediocre enough that I'd definitely vote for og breadsticks instead.

I don't think you work anywhere near Jersey City, but if you're in the area try Laico's. Their Italian food is excellent and it's a nice little place. We went there with friends as my 30th birthday treat.
There's a place in Orange called Libretti's that's supposed to be good, but I haven't tried that yet.
And I think you and I talked about Chef Vola's in AC already.

I am a Fazolis girl for fake Italian. Their breadsticks are so good and they have a drive-thru!

Man, I miss fazolis. I love that place.
I can't get over the hot dog bun-ness of OG's breadsticks.
I am also rolling my empty, joyless eyes (the windows to my empty, joyless soul) all the people who are "posting my favorite Disney characters to fill up FB feed with joy instead of negativity! Repost if you hate negativity! "

I happen to be in Jersey City today and tomorrow! But I have no say in food options (though I was taken to the restaurant in the Hyatt today for lunch and my chicken was surprisingly good for restaurant chicken). Will tell my husband (he works in JC now and constantly complains about food options there, mostly because he's only been to, like, ABP).
I have been to Libretti's. Food-wise it is decent, but nothing to write home about. Nice old school atmosphere though.
Chef vola's is on my list. I've read fantastic reviews of it.
H and ineach had a huuuuge mug of beer at the HofbrÀuhaus House in Munich. Then we came back and realized that our hotel room does not have AC. It's supposed to be in the mid 80's in Munich this week. I'm hot blooded. Our hotel room is on the second floor and faces a busy street. Exactly how much courage will I need to screw up to either 1) convince H to move hotels to somewhere with AC; or 2) ask to move to a quieter room?
I'm a bear without enough sleep. Such an asshole American.

JC is my old stomping grounds. Check out:
- Madame Claude's for French (get there early, though, service tends to suffer as it gets later since they only have one waitress) - Edward's for steaks - Rita and Joe's is another old-school Italian place (near Rt. 440) - Left Bank, White Star, or Park and Sixth for burgers, comfort food - Torico's for ice cream
Laico's isn't in Downtown but it's not far from there. The neighborhood is a little "ehhh" but it's not unsafe, and parking is a PITA but they have valet. The food and service are worth it.
Thanks for the tip about Libretti's - think I'll stick with Laico's.
This reminds me that I need to see if MH followed through with the CV's reservations for when we see Jim Gaffigan in August.
