Our school (huge - 1100 kids, at least 4 classes per grade) finds out the day before school starts. Always. I'm sur ethe lists are made ahead of time, but it cuts down on people requesting to switch teachers.
Yes. Our school says it's subject to change, but the kids meet their new teacher and see their new classroom on the last day of school. I think it's great, personally!

I only know this b/c my friend has kids just a few years old, but ours send Kindergarten decisions in June I think and the rest come in August before school.
But you have a generally good idea and can always request if there's a legit reason to.
I have another friend somewhere else who already knows the teacher her 1st grader will have too.

This would never fly in my district. #1-the amount of BS with parents trying to change their kids' schedule is rough as it IS when the schedules come out in August and #2- all summer is spent with staffing changes as people move around, retire, change positions, leave for other reasons, etc.
I can't imagine the disappointment of a young kid who meets one teacher at the end of the year only to have that not be the case come August.

I believe ours is like this as well, they do orientation the Friday before classes start and post class lists then. We also have around 4 classes per grade, K-6.

All of this is why our school waits. While I really want to know, I totally understand the reasons. And really, all I REALLY want to know is if some of DSs friends will actually be in his class this year (unlike this past year!).

I totally understand why parents want to know! For that matter, I wish I could know who was in my class prior to the week before school starting. It's just not logistically practical in most cases.
We know but it's pretty set because there are only about 110 kids in the school grades K-5 sooooo yeah. Unless a teacher leaves it doesn't change year to year.

Nope. im not even sure where my kid is going next year. The school board doesn't even know. ? I guess this is what we get for buying the second house on our street.
We already did a kindergarten orientation thing for the kids who are enrolled, including DD2 -- classes fill up fast at our school and there are only three of them: one full day and then one session each in a.m. and p.m. Which means we have one full-day teacher and one teacher for the a.m. and p.m. classes -- so everybody already knows who their teacher is. DD2 will have the same full-day teacher that DD1 had, which is nice (we really like her!) but wasn't a given because they sometimes change that up from year to year.
I think they do another orientation for late enrollees right before school starts, for any kids who move into the area.
DD1 is going into second grade and doesn't know who her teacher is going to be. I think we'll find that out a day before school starts, when they have the back-to-school night where we drop off supplies.
Labor day weekend is when class lists are posted. Things can change right up until the day school starts so the lists are the most up to date possible.
