I sold my bike on the town group page for $50. Then I found out that it didn't even cost that much when my parents bought me the bike back in junior high
Now there are some days that I wish I still had it, but I would rather ride with someone, and H won't ride. It's another item on the "When If we have kids" list.
We have done a ton of research in the past few months to buy bikes. Unfortunately there aren't usually any good bikes in that price range. If he plans to use it as a commuting tool then our research indicates $400 is realistic. It sucks. Therefore, we still don't have bikes. We have been saving up to buy soon though.
Anyway, have your H call my H if he wants some actually recs for bike product numbers. He may be able to share his corporate discount with you (40% off) valid at a few online places, and they ship to Sport's Authority. That might bring you down to $250
Are you looking for a road bike or trail bike? Either way, you can get decent bikes for about $250. Look for Giant, Trek, Specialized. I wouldn't bother with one from Walmart.
I agree with amaranth...$400 is more realistic unless you want to shop craigslist or something used. I used to ride a lot and have spent a ton of $$$ on bikes (I have bought 4 while doing triathlons...my last bike purchase was $5k when I was trying to qualify for the world championships). Now I hardly ride which sucks...I miss it but also don't miss spending all weekend in the saddle. It would be nice to go for a short 1 hr ride every now and then though.

So YOU are the kind of person who would be interested in this gem of a deal I found yesterday hehe.

Hey, that's actually a really good deal! Yes, back in the day I would have been all over that...in fact, I did buy a bike similar to that while in grad school...but it was around $3k, not $12k. I have honestly spent way way way too much money on bikes. I do love the last bike I bought and hope to ride it again someday (last time I seriously rode was before I got pg with C...I tried to ride when I was like 22 wk pg and that was just stupid and humbling).

It wouldn't be to commute, just for him and I to have nice bike rides together for exercise and a free activity. Thanks for the recommendations
amaranth He has talked to your H when he called him the other week. They talked about bikes for a good long while. How funny! He wouldn't use it to commute just for us to have a free leisure activity to have together Thanks for the advice!
