Dd came home the other day singing a song she learned in school about not smoking. It included lyrics about smokers stinking. So now I'm just waiting for her to see a smoker while we are out and tell them they stink .
Is there no better way to teach children about these things?

That would make me angry. I tell DD1 that she isn't allowed to make people feel bad about how they look or smell. She has a book about the human body, and it has a graphic of what lungs look like when you smoke, so that has been pretty sufficient so far. There are definitely different ways to teach about it.
I had the Price is Right on while I was packing the other day, and DS loves the show. He gets this huge grin on his face and jumps up and down when everyone jumps, claps along with the show, and my personal favorite, yells "Come On Dooowwwn!".
I'm stressing out about DD's upcoming Kindergarden assessment, and I know I shouldn't be. I just keep thinking that I have to prep her, because apparently that's what all the other stupid parents around here do. I want her to be in the smart kid classes, not necessarily because I think she's smart (she is, of course!), but because I have it in my head that consistently being told your smart and being in the advanced level classes reinforces to a kid that they should see themselves as smart, and plays into seeing education as a wonderful and important thing. It's mostly ridiculous, and I realize I shouldn't be worried about it at all, so apart from reading to her/with her every day, it haven't actually done any prep, but I want to break out some flash cards sooo badly.
i got a coupon code for American Girl for 20% off. Grace was going to buy the Girl of the Year doll (Grace, of course) when we went next month anyway so i bought that, got the fucking ears pierced, the overpriced beret and a couple shit things for the same price as the doll in store. and free shipping.

I'm home alone with the children. We are supposed to decorate mugs for fathers day presents. We're also going to stop at B&R to pick out our annual fathers day ice cream cake. If there's a frozen one I've got money on "daddy loves let it go!"

i feel like i got something done today.
I don't suppose there's any way this coupon can be used multiple times... SST has been saving up for that doll too.

My ILs are planning on picking DD up from school and taking her to the carnival at their church. We took her on Wednesday so I've already seen her ride all the rides. Part of me feels like I should go tonight, but I really don't want to. DH has softball so I'd have the whole house to myself until I had to go pick her up.

it said one time use but i'll PM it to you anyway. can't hurt to try
I posted about this on MMM but it's cracking me up so I feel the need to share other places too. AJ got ahold of daddy's car keys yesterday and has apparently left them somewhere undetermined, so now J is ripping the house apart looking for them (thankfully he's playing hooky from work today so he doesn't have to worry about that, he just wants to take AJ to the sitter's so he can get stuff done around the house). And all I can do is sit here at work and laugh. Is that bad?
C gets to learn about our Disney trip tonight, wheee! No more speaking with DH about it in code!
We also got his speech therapy review. He's now at age-level with about 90% accuracy, though we still have to watch his word/phrase repetitions in case it indicates other issues or shifts in to true stuttering. The review meeting is next week, and I suspect they will advise to keep monitoring but recommend ending the therapy after this year. Also, the therapist was very complimentary about how cooperative and hard-working C has been in his sessions, very proud of him

LB still thinks she is dying. i have been over her shit for the last 3 days. unless an arm or leg falls off, i care no longer if she flails on the couch.
YD will never potty train. ever. this fucking sucks. LB did it in one weekend. he gives no fucks and will happily shit himself and sit in it all damn day
No it's the 21st we're doing it early.
BabyLiu was 4 before she potty trained, but it happened. Finally. Keep hope alive.

Who makes foaming soap? Can I really just mix regular hand soap & water & it will foam? IIOY
This is what I do. I used a pump from a store-bought soap once the original soap ran out. I do find the pump to be a bit "sticky" whenever I first pour gel soap in to mix with the water because it doesn't mix completely. However it loosens up after a few uses. I've been on the same pump and bottle of gel soap for ages now. It's fantastic. Another benefit - I can skip the antibacterial soap, which I wasn't able to do with store-bought foam soap.

DD's first grade class had a super adorable author's tea where they each read a nonfiction book they wrote about a subject of their choice. I think they've been working on this for months. It was fascinating to see all the different subjects that were chosen. DD chose horses, of course, with details about breeds, what they eat, etc. On her "about author" page, the question what do you want to be when you grow up -- "be in the circus". LOL. Her dream is to be one of those people that do tricks on top of and while riding the horses.

FUCK. don't scare me like that. I thought we were friends. You made me check my calendar all in a panic. I totally intend to get something for father's day for MH from Shorti and Pending Sizzli all cute because I failed last year.

My dad smoked for 25+ years. I was in 8th grade and came home crying b/c a teacher asked me out of concern if I had been smoking "because I often smelled like cigarette smoke." The day I told my parents that all teary-eyed, my dad stopped smoking and never has since. My mom on the other hand pretended to stop smoking, but still closet smokes about 2 cigarettes per day - and we can tell b/c she smells. It's bad for a child to just say that in public to someone else, but I guess I don't chalk it up there with letting them know that is one of the hazards of starting. Not loving it in a song though.
J had a full development checkup with whatever county services people today. He only had 9 words when we made the appt, but in the last two weeks he's caught up to 22 and adding more daily. He passed with flying colors and checked off their boxes so quickly they were out in a half hour (they normally allow 2 hours). Then they came and visited me and he was super cute.
The boys freaked the fuck out at not going to daycare together this morning, which was also cute.
A has worn underwear all week and had zero accidents. He still threw a fit this morning wanting to wear a pull-up. I do believe we're going on a super special reward trip tomorrow.
We found out a few weeks ago that DS1 will have to have his tonsils out in July. We found out this week that DS2 will need to have eye surgery, also in July. KILL ME NOW!
