In general, which political party do you most align with?
I know there are exceptions for each candidate and office, but I don't usually meet too many people on the fence. Curious to hear from any swing voters!
I'm pretty much libertarian across the board. I don't know who I will vote for in 2016. I don't live in a swing state so I feel better about voting on issues alone. If I was in a swing state I think I'd feel more compelled to choose red or blue.
I recently learned of new voting systems that don't lend themselves to just a two party system. It was really fascinating.
Truth be told, I don't really know what libertarian means. Off to Wikipedia lol.
Many people describe it as the party that wants smaller government and less government involvement. Obviously that's very simplistic.
Eta: it certainly has some big contested issues. A lot of people criticize its lack of resources for the poor, etc. Some of that comes down to the specific candidate though. They seem to vary.

Interesting. I read on Wikipedia there are both left-and right-leaning libertarians, so it can get complicated.

Yes, I think it's confusing. I think the right vs. Left leaning are on things like abortion. The typical divisive issues. I'm right leaning, ftr.
Neither DH or I have ever leaned one way or another on voting parties. We tend to lean towards which ever campaign we like better and the individuals in each party.
I'm very liberal, at least when it comes to social matters (reproductive rights, marriage equality, gun control, etc.) Social issues are my biggest concern, so I tend to vote for whomever aligns most closely with my views on those

I go back and forth, I agree with some Republican platforms, but I also agree with a some Democrat platforms, ie pro-choice, pro-gay rights. I don't know if this is an option in other states, but I vote Undecided.

What are the parties like in Canada? Is it a two party system?
Libertarian. I'm very "you do you" and small government. Officially, I'm Republican, but only because Libertarian isn't an option when registering to vote.

The main ones are: Liberals Conservatives New Democratic Party (NDP)
Most of the time it's a minority government so we have at least a little of each in the ring.
Edit: some people are very loyal to a party but some people are not because members of parties have switched between parties in the past.

I think I'm registered Green party, but it's not like third parties actually have a chance, so I chose Democrat. I've also been a registered Libertarian ('08-'12) and Republican '02-07).
I'm very liberal, at least when it comes to social matters (reproductive rights, marriage equality, gun control, etc.) Social issues are my biggest concern, so I tend to vote for whomever aligns most closely with my views on those
Pretty much this. I feel a lot more passionate about social issues and I'm very pro SSM, pro choice, and pretty much lean left on most other issues. I would have a very hard time voting for someone based on their economical views if they were the opposite of me on social issues. I just think people need to stop being so concerned about what they think other people should or shouldn't be doing. If it doesn't negatively affect me, why do I care what you do in your personal life?

LIBERTARIAN
Libertarians support maximum liberty in both personal and economic matters. They advocate a much smaller government; one that is limited to protecting individuals from coercion and violence. Libertarians tend to embrace individual responsibility, oppose government bureaucracy and taxes, promote private charity, tolerate diverse lifestyles, support the free market, and defend civil liberties.

I'm registered republican. Limit welfare, bring back work programs, food stamps should be reigned in, leave my guns alone. I personally hate abortion, but know that some people just should not be parents, or just are not ready, and would hate to see a child not wanted, hurting, etc, so understand why some would want abortions. Besides, they're already legal, so time to move on. If you haven't been invited into someone's bedroom, stay out of it. As long as they aren't abusing animals or children, it's not anyone else's business if they enjoy group sex while being smacked in the ass with a rubber chicken.
Basically, be responsible for yourself, don't do illegal crap, continue to help those who truly need it, and don't be a busybody. So, republican, but also not.
ETA: Oh, and if you think any value of a person is determined by their gender or race, you deserve to be beat. People are people, every race has their idiots and bad guys, nothing makes yours any better than anyone else's. Stop that shit.
Another right-leaning Libertarian here. I will uuuuuuuusually keep my mouth solid shut on political posts. I've gotten ripped apart in the past! (But bc it's WC...yes, I am a gun-toting citizen.)

Same here. I'm very liberal. I identify most closely with the ideals of the Green Party.
I'm not surprised that I ended up pretty smack dab in the middle of the Libertarian section. Your PERSONAL issues Score is 70% Your ECONOMICS issues Score is 70% According to your answers, the political group that agrees with you most is... LIBERTARIAN

You are not alone.
Neither are you
Another right leaning libertarian here.
I was raised in a house that didn't discuss money/religion/politics with others much, so that's been hard to get past as an adult. The interesting thing is that my dad has changed a lot on that as he has gotten older. He was the one who ingrained that in me but he is all about discussing politics now. He and H enjoy rational political debates over holiday dinners. It makes me batty.

Ditto this exactly. I'm not rich enough to be fiscally conservative.
I'm a libertarian that leans right. I tend to vote republican because our economics are an absolute mess. When I do, I just hope said republican doesn't screw with social issues. I'm pro-choice, for gay marriage, for gun ownership, and for the death penalty. You just never know what you're going to get with me! I wish an independent could make it into office.
