The music for the SciFi TV show Babylon 5 was shamelessly operatic and compelling. It fit the grand scale of the story really well. I believe the composer is Christopher Franke.
And of course once you think of it you want to hear it on YouTube. My husband just stuck his head in and hopefully asked, "Are you watching Babylon 5?"
I love film scores! A couple that haven't been mentioned:
I loved the percussion heavy score of Birdman. Nightmare Before Christmas - shoutout to the zany Danny Elfman. Tree of Life - gorgeous movie, gorgeous soundtrack by masters of classical music. Brokeback Mountain - Gustavo's academy award was well deserved
I feel John Williams is the Taylor Swift of movie scores In that people love to hate on him, but damn if he don't do it well. He was with the Louisville Symphony Orchestra earlier this year and I seriously considered chaperoning my cousin's field trip (two counties away) just so I could experience it. It had to be awesome.
I'm sure it was! He does a lot of events in Los Angeles. I attended a panel on film scores that featured him and I've watched him conduct the Imperial March with the Hollywood Bowl orchestra a couple of times.

If we are going instrumental, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves all the way. As a musician, I can say even after all these years it is incredibly fun to play.
I like John Williams.
I know it isn't iconic, but I love the Hagood Hardy Anne of Green Gables soundtrack. He wrote all the music and it is just beautiful.

I loved the songs in Back to the Future. Huey Lewis and the News really did it for me back in those days . Indiana Jones and LOTR were great as well. HP, I love how from a single tune they can evoke so many different emotions just by playing it differently.
