This random post brought to you by the fact that just seeing a small clip of JP or the new movie has me whistling the theme all day. And the fact I'm a former band nerd.
In your opinion, what are the most Iconic movie themes/scores?
Mine: Jurassic Park jaws Star Wars Gone with the wind Titanic Forrest Gump Apollo 13 (this is probably because I'm currently watching it.)
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Star Wars Indiana Jones Jaws Jurassic Park Singin' in the Rain
Others: Kill Bill Harry Potter Pulp Fiction Guardians of the Galaxy -less iconic, but it's a great soundtrack
I forgot to add... I was never really a Tarantino fan, but after loving Django, I went back and watched Kill Bill for the first time in 10+ years. And what struck me the most in the movie was how... deliberate Tarantino is in all of his musical or sound effect choices. He always makes you hear EXACTLY what he wants you to hear, and it fit in so well with the cinematic experience that I had to change much of my perspective about his films.

I'm hit or miss on Tarantino, but I really do love Kill Bill. Just an all around fun movie to watch.

Scores - Harry Potter. Titanic has some gorgeous music too (not counting My Heart Will Go On, lol) Soundtracks - I still love the Leo version of Romeo and Juliet soundtrack

Oh my bob, I could kiss you, elletr13. I'm a film score and epic music nerd. It is my favorite genre. I've been collecting scores and soundtracks since I was in middle school. My first was Jurassic Park, then Star Wars, The Lion King, and hundreds more to follow. I'm currently listening to the score to Mad Max: Fury Road.
I have scores of tracks (pun intended) and composers to share. And, actually, one particular composition by Clint Mansell, Lux Aeterna, is the inspiration behind my chosen name. It played an influential part in my life about 7 years ago and remains a favorite to this day. It was used in the LOTR: Two Towers trailer. I seriously hunt down trailer music after watching bad ass movie trailers. I can get really giddy about it.
Other scores:
The Fountain Noah Inception Gladiator Interstellar Man of Steel The Matrix Equilibrium Gravity Pacific Rim Titanic LOTR Jaws Star Wars The Host The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Ender's Game The Shawshank Redemption The Da Vinci Code King Arthur Tron: Legacy American Beauty Sunshine Game of Thrones
and so many more.
Trailer music production companies:
Two Steps From Hell Audiomachine Zack Hemsey RipTide Music
Great compilations (lists composes and artists) of epic orchestral music. This music can make mundane things seem epic. I listen to it while doing chores, exercising, schoolwork and other tasks.

the soundtrack to this movie really surprised me. Normally this type of movie doesn't seem to put much care into the music, but Pacific Rim stands out more in my memory due in part to the music. Now I'm listening to it again Tron was also great.
Mine that I can think of at the moment: Jurassic Park Harry Potter (mostly the first 3) Lord of the Rings trilogy Pirates of the Caribbean (just the 1st one) Last of the Mohicans Lion King Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon ETA: Ravenous, this one is just... so weird and so right with the movie.
And not a movie, but the music to The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is so good.

I agree with so many of these!
Also, Empire Records. Edwyn Collins, Cranberries, Gin Blossoms, Better Than Ezra, Toad the Wet Sprocket, and Coyote Shivers. OMG, it was the perfect music for my angsty 13-year-old self.

I feel John Williams is the Taylor Swift of movie scores In that people love to hate on him, but damn if he don't do it well. He was with the Louisville Symphony Orchestra earlier this year and I seriously considered chaperoning my cousin's field trip (two counties away) just so I could experience it. It had to be awesome.
