The thing is, it's just me and her in the office. So...and my bday is a week from Friday and I'm pretty sure she's planning on doing something. I do believe she *is* taking the day off on my birthday, so there's that!
I feel you pennypenny and this is the part of myself that I don't like...it's how I am here. I am not myself here...I'm less than my true self.

A plant? But I'm guessing you would have to take care of it.
How about a funny card and a few cupcakes from a boutique bakery? Or a box of chocolates from a nice shop?
How much do you feel obligated to spend?
I don't really feel obligated to spend anything. I just feel like I should recognize it in some way. She's not opposed to grocery store baked goods, either, but I don't think I can get just one cupcake from the grocery, so I may try and find a small bakery.
ETA: And I think I'd rather just spend a few bucks on a cupcake than actually spend the time and effort to make something from scratch. Because. No.

That is the best present she can give you.
As for her. She still breathes. If that is not enough, may I recommend:

O.M.G!!!!!! I would die a thousand deaths if I could give her that and she'd actually wear it!

You could also sign her up for that glitter bomb service? Maybe an annual membership.
Yeah definitely don't bake anything, way too much effort. My grocery store has a little bakery case where you can buy individual decorated cookies - do you have anything like that nearby? Then you could just buy one or two and be done.

You are a bigger person than I am! Seriously! Since you are intent on being a kind person I would say a boutique cupcake and a card is an absolutely lovely gesture.
Isn't the "rule" that you don't give your boss gifts? I never gave my boss one, and considering that you hate her, I wouldn't do anything except say happy birthday.
All such great ideas, girls! I will probably just go with a cupcake and not even bother with a card. The thought of trying to pick a card for her seems like too much work. To be honest, if her bday was on the weekend, I would just tell her HB and be done with it. My birthday being directly after hers complicates it in my mind. And I know she knows when it is because when I told her she said "Oh! I won't forget that! It's the same day as my mom's!" If I thought she wouldn't remember mine or do anything, I wouldn't bother.
