I love to wear skirts, but in the late fall/winter, I do too much walking outside to wear pumps.
I'm looking for boots to wear with pencil skirts mostly. I see this done on blogs alot, but am not sure if it's really work appropriate. (As a side note, my office is fairly casual, I just tend to dress up more.)
What styles of boots (ankle or tall) do you typically wear to work?

I personally don't like the look of a pencil skirt with boots. I think boots + skirt can look cute if the skirt is fuller or A line. However, since I wear a lot of pencil skirts and live in a colder climate, in the winter I do wear tall boots (just at the knee) to and from work and then change into shoes once I'm at the office.

I tried on some of my pencil skirts with boots last winter and always changed before I even walked out of the bedroom. The way the skirt is fitted and then the lines of the boot look really choppy and cut me off. I always wore pumps and such. Not one of my pairs of boots looked good with a pencil.
I don't mind tall boots with a pencil skirt as long as there is a clear definition between the boot and the skirt. I don't like it when the bottom of the skirt barely hits the top of the boot. It needs to be purposefully separate.
I have never been able to pull it off but I have seen people at work that do it. There is one teacher in particular who pairs her jean pencil skirt with a pair of cognac boots. I keep trying to replicate it, but it does not look as good on me.
I'm tall, but I've done it a lot. Sometimes I wear tights (especially if I'm wearing black boots), but my cognac boots work, too. Ditto everyone else about leaving a slight space.
I do it a lot with tall boots and like it. The boots need to fit close to the leg, not be too bulky and as a PP mentioned there needs to be leg (covered in tights) showing between the boot and the skirt.
I'm not visualizing it working with booties but I'm sure it depends on the details there as well.

This.
I also prefer a sleeker boot. Not something chunky (like some of the boho or motorcyle boots in style).
