From what I would have assumed, this is not what the point of having these kinds of groups is. I would be incredibly turned off by a group like this in my field. I think it would cause even the other women in the field to side eye the members. Isn't this what the weekends are for?
The one where I was super annoyed because the organizer dresses in clubwear and wears makeup like she's going out to party with her huge falsies... lol.
It's official. I can't hang.
Today they're hosting their first event - a tea party. All the volunteers were supposed to dress in red or pink. She regularly jokes about "oh I don't know if the men can handle all of our estrogen in one room!" The emails they're sending out reference "Our girl crush for the week is..."
It really annoys me. This is not going the direction I'd hoped a professional women's groups would go. This is, like, high school prom committee crap to me.
UGHHHH.
If you can, vocalize this ikch ikch ikch.. that's the sound that kept escaping from me as I read this. I'm in tech, I would not participate in this. A woman's group is not a bad thing but this isn't what I want at work.
I've been involved in so many successful, really good professional women's groups that I believe they're out there and not deadly boring. But when you find a bad one, it's often SO VERY VERY BAD.
