So lately I feel discouraged every time I get dressed. I have hundreds of clothing items but even after putting on 5-6 I still feel ugly or frumpy.
Would it be crazy to get rid of everything and start over? I would keep anything I feel GREAT in, and ditch the rest. It would feel wasteful, but I think less annoying too. Thoughts?
I just did this, but haven't managed to replace anything yet. I donated it all to Amvets, which will pick up at your house and leave a tax donation slip for you.

If I had the money I'd totally do this! I'd really prefer to lose this belly so I can fit into more of my old stuff but realistically it probably won't happen, haha. I don't think it's crazy!

Not insane. I would set stuff aside for a month or so just in case you change your mind, but a fresh start sounds amazing. You can out together a lot of different outfits from just a few items and accesories.
I don't think it's insane. It sounds expensive haha. But I'd totally want to do this if I could afford it... I really need a new wardrobe too! I like katespade's idea about trying to make a little money back so you can use that to fund your new clothes
I vote not insane. I did this last fall with all my work/professional clothing. I wanted to start over with quality pieces that fit better and I felt better in.

Think about how often you clean out your closet. If it's not often (every other season or so?), I vote not insane. It's incredible how quickly stuff you don't even want can pile up when you don't part with it. Plus you deserve to be happy! I say donate or sell what you can, and start fresh.

I have totally been there! After reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, I went especially crazy with only keeping items in my closet that "spark joy" (which might only make sense if you read the book, LOL). I'd personally rather have 5 things that make me feel amazing rather than a closet filled with clothes that don't make me feel so hot.
A lot of my clothes were purchased in high school from the Kohls clearance rack. Sooo, a lot of mishappen cotton shirts by now. I don't think I've ever invested in quality clothing.
Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I think this week I'll work through things to get rid of. I can't afford to replace everything, but I can at least slowly start to accumulate things.
If you don't wear the stuff, I would definitely get rid of it! Especially if it's from high school! Have you heard of a capsule wardrobe? Here is a blog entry about it: www.un-fancy.com/category/capsule-wardrobe-101/ If you google capsule wardrobe there are a lot more articles about it. But basically, it suggests that by having a smaller number of clothes that are good quality, fit you well, and look good, you will actually have more versatility in your wardrobe. I haven't done this but I have thought about it!
