First - don't answer the door but if you answer the door take your cell phone with you. Then you have the option to record them, if they are belligerent, or you have the option to call the police.
Since moving here a few years ago we've only had one security alarm sales person, but I've gotten a few banking/investment people - you really think I'm going to trust my money and financial future on someone going door to door, really?
Well, now that all the criminals in the area know you are so lackidasical (I don't know how to spell that non word) abut your home security, you better move. Also, this is why I don't answer the door. Well that and I don't want to encourage people to come to my house. Lol.
Omg. I snorted. They say that your house is less likely to get broken into just by posting an adt sign or whatever outside. Pretty sure this would be like, 200% more effective

At least here, all of these sorts need a registration/license to make these calls. If they don't have the lanyard (which some of these security companies are known for not getting), I tell them "sorry, but you don't have the proper credentials to be asking." Shuts them up pretty fast.
