Remember my allergic reactions from eating steak? My throat swelled and I went to the ER from an attempted date night in February. Well I finally saw an allergist this afternoon and they did the million skin tests on my back. It came back positive for a beef allergy. What. The. Hell. This doctor is an elderly woman and she said it's the first one she's had in her practice. And I live in Texas! I can't be allergic to beef!
That is awful and bizarre! Surely you would have noticed it when eating other beef though, right? Maybe it's like lactose intolerance and you can have small quantities?
spankswife Nope. Last Labor Day was my first reaction and February was my second. Those were the only times I ate steak. I noticed some prickling when I ate burgers sometimes but I thought it was more anxiety-related from me anticipating a reaction. The steak I ate on Labor Day was the same meal I ate almost every week when we lived in Ft Hood a couple of years ago.
katespade The doctor actually said the beta blocker that I'm on from my preeclampsia will make allergic reactions more severe. It also interferes with the effectiveness of epi pens so I have to contact my doctor and change my BP medication. I was also informed that Benadryl is not the recommended medication for anaphylactic reactions because it apparently won't stop me from dying. She literally said that. I was like ok cool, good to know.
Since I don't have an anaphylactic reaction with ground beef or other things, I'm still hopeful that there's some kind of loophole here. We're going to try and figure out if it's a certain percentage of beef, certain part of the cow, and mostly if it's the alpha-gal allergy. Regardless, I'm not okay with any of this.
Also, apparently this tropical depression is going to flood the shit out of Houston so now stores are all running out of bottled water, batteries, gas, etc. Houston doesn't mess around with hurricane season. I'm glad I filled up on gas before the craziness ensued.
One of our friends from college got bit by a tick and now he's allergic to red meat. I think he can have chicken and fish, but he'll get sick if it's cooked on the same grill as red meat.
Oh man, that is crazy! Never heard of it before! & the news is blowing this storm out of proportion and freaking people out (at least for now). The rain is almost non-existent!

Yes, I'm so glad I got no sleep for work because the daycare closed at 1pm in anticipation of the storm. It's not even raining right now!
