We've enrolled DS in a FT preschool (at a daycare center facility) starting in August. We paid the deposit back in March.
Last week we got a flyer from the preschool that if we enroll our child for preschool by 7/8 and he starts by 9/1 we could save $500 off tuition ($100/wk for 5 weeks.) They clearly haven't updated their mailing list.
I've emailed the director to ask if they can credit that to us since, well, we've already signed up and he meets those dates criteria. We envision they might say no since this marketing is clearly toward getting more people to sign up. If they say no, I told DH I might cancel his enrollment, lose the $320 deposit, then reenroll him (or ask if I can do this and hope they cave.)
DH thinks that's being cheap. Is it? Would you do it? If it matters, he'll only be there a year until K starts next year.
I wouldn't. I probably would email to ask about the discount (as you did), but if they say "no," I'd drop it. As you said, it sounds like the deal is to try to attract new business, so not geared to you...
Ditto this. Doesn't hurt to ask but I'd drop it if they say no and not re-enroll him.
Why did you enroll him back in March and not wait till just a few weeks before he's scheduled to start? To reduce the stress of not having a plan till now? To guarantee your spot at your choice location? I think these reasons are worth the deposit you paid, correct? Or else you wouldn't have paid it in the first place.
It is common for businesses to have deals to attract new business and to fill last minute spots. You know this isn't your situation even if you received the mailing lol. If I were so bold, I may ask for a credit for the $180 or so difference between the $500 promotion and the deposit. But they will probably look at you like you have two heads and at that point I would completely drop it.
You live, you learn. If this isn't a highly in demand type of program, in the future, wait till a few weeks out and roll the dice to try and take advantage of a last minute deal.

I would ask but if they say no I wouldn't un-enroll just to get the money. You want these people to be on your team, not starting off on a bad foot. This promotion seems intended to increase enrollment before school starts so unfortunately you aren't the target audience.
I would definitely ask. DD's preschool had a similar promo and they honored it with us. I wouldn't drop him and re-enroll though. That sounds like too much work especially if it's a popular place and you may lose a spot.
I would have asked for the discount like you did, but I definitely wouldn't un-enroll and reenroll after they say no.
Ditto. It's okay to ask for a discount, but un-enroll and re-enrolling seems petty IMHO. That's not the impression I'd want to give DS's preschool. I don't want to start the school year off as a picky parent KWIM?
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I'm betting they'll honor it for you.
We had a similar situation with DD's first daycare and they honored it for us.
Good to hear! I'll report back and y'all know what happens.

I'm not sure dropping and re-enroll ing would work, anyway. It's not like you're taking something out of your Amazon cart and putting it back in-- it's not an automated system. Presumably, they would know that you had previously enrolled and would not honor it. If they don't go or the flyer, I might ask if you can do it, but if they say no, I'd drop it. Hopefully, they'll honor it and it won't be a problem.
