I asked this on ML, but no bites.
I feel like there's gotta be a solution out there, but I haven't found it. I want somewhere to upload all my photos/videos both to serve as backup/storage, but also a place my family members can view my stuff and download if they so choose, but also upload and share their own photos and videos for the rest of the family.

I just email them. So, about every day I send an email with a couple pictures or a short video to DH, my parents, and my in laws along with a brief description. Occasionally I include BIL or DD1's godparents.
I used to have a blog which was private that only those people could view, but it stopped letting me post pictures via email, so it was easier to just email them directly.
It's private & invite-only. Calendar format. User-friendly app so easy to update from our phones. You can also get daily or weekly digest emails, which our grandparents use since they don't have Smart Phones.
It enables us to share tons of pictures with those who really want tons of pictures, without clogging up Facebook. My inlaws live in Asia and they are addicted to TinyBeans. My parents check it multiple times a day as well.
ETA: As far as a back-up place for ALL your photos & videos, we use Flickr. Free, 1TB of storage, etc. All of my pictures since 2004 or so are on there. It automatically uploads from my iPhone & DH's iPhone as well as our computer.

Yeah, we share a lot on Facebook, but my sister/parents don't because they still think Facebook and privacy don't go together. The video isn't great quality, it's not a good backup service, nor a good solution for downloading copies of what you want.

We use shutterfly - you can make a website and anyone who has access (You have to give permission to anyone who wants it) can view/upload/download/print

We use SkyDrive. Some family members (like DH's mom and siblings) have access to entire folders so they can just check for updates. For others, we send links with access to specific albums.
Well, our phones automatically put everything on Dropbox, which is our back up service.
The reality is that other people in my life don't need higher quality than Facebook. And that no one else really cares enough to log into a new site to look at snapshots of my kids. I guess some grandparents are more highly invested than my parents. Odds of me logging in to some random site to look at photos of my niece and nephews: zero.

Honestly I order prints and pick them up at Costco if our parents really want them that bad. I don't understand why someone needs access to all your pictures to download....
My FIL just prints them off of FB and hangs them up at work. They look fine.

Well, I want access to theirs as much as they want access to mine. And not ALL photos, just the ones we want to share with others. Like, we'll go to my sister's house for a Father's Day brunch and maybe she'll shoot a video and I didn't. But another day they'll be over at my house, and I'll have the camera out and no one else will, etc.
I mostly post pictures to facebook for family to see or I email them.
All photos and videos get backed up to drop box. If I have a lot of photos to share with family (like from our family vacation) then I will email them a link to the dropbox folder so they can download what they want.
The most important ones I send as email attachments. The next-most important ones I share on FB with everyone, and my family usually sees them. The full set go on Flickr, only people who are real photo junkies see those.
I'm still not on instagram, because Flickr is so good.
FB or text message. My MIL refuses to get on FB, so I set up a Shutterfly account and invited our families to a group. I haven't posted anything to Shutterfly in about nine months because
MIL complains about all the stuff she's missing, but she won't join FB. ^o) Oh, well.

Daily?! Holy crap. They'd have to pay me. I give myself a mental pat on the back for remembering to forward something particularly cute from daycare.
Well, if I don't do it right after I take the pictures, I'll never remember to do it. So any time I take a cute picture or we do a fun outing, I just send the pictures right away. If I'd had kids before smart phones I would never have gotten around to sending pictures to anyone!!

You should definitely look into TinyBeans. It does this for you!
