She was pulled from a home about an hour and a half from Raleigh with 4 other dogs. The woman put one of them on Craigslist and when someone from our rescue contacted her, she admitted to having 5 goldens. When the lady went to see them, she discovered the woman who had these dogs was a backyard breeder. She had them all kenneled in her garage without access to food or water. All of them were covered in their own urine and feces and all emaciated. Last week it was in the high 90s and 100s all week, so they probably wouldn't have made it if they hadn't picked them up on Monday am!
We had two ladies from our rescue rent a cargo van and just picked them all up and the lady signed them all over but one that lived in the house with her. Two are 12 years old (!) one was 10 and two are 6 years old. Mine is a 6 year old female. She was matted so badly and her belly was matted around the metal bar of the crate that our rescue workers had to cut her free. They shaved off her entire coat because it was in such bad shape. Everyone got neutered and spayed and got sent home last week. They're all struggling with anxiety and circling because that's the only exercise they could give themselves in their crates.
The good news is that all of them are bouncing back remarkably quick. All are so happy and adjusting to life indoors and being clean. My little love is so sweet and just wants to be petted. She's like a little shadow too, she follows me where ever and is just so happy. She's still having a lot of anxiety, but hopefully with the routine she'll be fine. She also has heartworms and has to gain 30 pounds (almost her entire body weight). They don't want to do the HW treatment yet until she gains more weight so she'll at least be a 3 month foster. I kind of knew as soon as I met her that she was mine. Buddy is actually doing okay with her too, he doesn't act slighted (much). They are both really similar, very affectionate and sweet and easy going in temperament.
Doglove I'm glad you have her. What a terrible life she has had so far. I'm sure she will love being with you.
Thanks! We are having a group discussion right now about puppy mills and how people buy puppies from the store and have no idea the parents are living in these kinds of conditions.

I went to a softball game (we won!), chatted with a bunch of people, then ran into some again when I stopped for ice cream. Then I did some yard work. Now I am in my underwear watching "the war" and drinking iced tea.
doglove that poor girl! SO GLAD she's with you now. I love that outdoor picture of her where she looks like she's smiling. Looks like there's a sunny personality in there!
