"I could get continuing education credits for literally sitting in a room and listening to Frito-Lay tell me that Sun Chips are a good way to meet my fiber needs," he says. "I thought, 'No wonder Americans are overweight and diabetic. The gatekeepers for our information about food are getting their information from junk-food companies.'"

I know I'm missing the point, but this is bugging me
"The other arranged two chocolate chip cookies and a yogurt parfait on a napkin. "Eww," she said, gingerly stirring the layers of yogurt and pink strawberry goop. "
the fruit and yogurt parfait is not pink strawberry goop. it's literally some van. yogurt, some frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries (not packed in syrup/water or anything), and granola. made in house. that goop was natural strawberry juice from the thawing berries mixed with yogurt.
the only way it could be better for you is if it was plain/unsweetened Greek yogurt

Feed my kid the fruit and yogurt parfait because he's picky as hell and won't eat anything else there. Yes, the fruit is just fruit, but I won't pretend it's anything but a candy bar in yogurt's clothing.

23g of sugar!
I said it could be better for you with unsweetened yogurt, but I won't agree that it's as bad as a candy bar. 23 is still 8 less than 31, and some (maybe an insignificant amount) of the sugar is from fruit.
Oh man! I missed this thread! I was on vacation. I'm almost caught up doing a quick skim. Team wambam and toledo.
Also adding my usual disclaimer that I really do think people should eat whatever they want and I truly don't care what any individual here eats or doesn't eat. So team me too.

But, anyway you slice it, PD should not come from industry sponsors.
except that, as I am saying this, it does most of the time in my field. If the training isn't being done by staff in house, then a company rep is coming to teach us how to use the new program we bought and also hoping to sell us any components we haven't bought yet.
So here's the real question- if RD conferences are being sponsored by McD's and the like, and the gov't is beholden to corn / wheat industry who do we trust when it comes to food?

Did you just use the phrase "made in house" to describe a yogurt parfait from fucking McDonalds?

what am I stupid?
that should read 'assembled on site from ingredients manufactured and processed elsewhere'
