W-4 question - number of allowances??

It's been years since I've filled out a W-4. How do you figure out the number of allowances? I consulted the worksheet, but I swear I remember being told that claiming zero was the best.

Help?!

DH and I earn near equal amounts, so we each claim 0 and list as married, withhold at higher single rate. Doing it that way for the last several years resulted in us paying less than $1000 at tax time, so I'm ok with it.
