Because T mobile service sucks. I'm counting the days until my contract expires. Nothing like paying for a phone that doesn't even have good service in half the places I go.

No catch. I did their $60 unlimited everything plus 2Gb data (at 4G, switched to 2G if I went over) for over a year. I haven't looked at their $30 plan, but I'm guessing the unlimited data is capped at 2G, so that's a big negative. I just switched to verizon (already hate them) and so paid for the $2/day rate between when my month ended and the new contract began, and IIRC the $1/day was speed limited.
Your other catch is the 100 minutes which most people find way too low for how people use cell phones today. It's fine if your my parents who use it to contact the other if they're out, but they use their landline for everything else.
I have this plan. It is 5GB data at 4G and then unlimited at a slower speed. The plan works fine for me, 100 minutes is enough as I have a land line that I use when at home. I think you can only do this plan if you buy a phone at Walmart, it can not be used with phone purchased other places. I bought the Samsung Exhibit II for $200. The plan allows me to have a smartphone without being tied into a contract (it is prepay) and without paying ridiculous amount for limits I don't use. I think it rocks!

I have virgin mobile and I pay $25/mo for unlimited text, unlimited data, and 300 minutes. I think it is $35 for new users. I haven't had any problems.
I would never use t mobile again after all of the shitty things they did back when I had a sidekick and they were having all of those issues with them.

I have this plan too! You can actually use it with any unlocked GSM phone, but I found that I got better data speeds with one of tmobile's phones (which I purchased online directly from their site). I really like prepaid plans in general. I had Virgin Mobile's unlimited plan for a few years previously and had no problems (I only switched because I wanted to upgrade to a different phone and tmobile has better signal at my work). They don't give you very many minutes, but I hate talking on the phone, so it works for me
i thought i read that with the walmart plan there are lots of restrictions on the data usage - so its not really "unlimited" - i believe you can't stream any music (pandora) or videos.
I haven't had any trouble streaming Pandora or watching videos. As far as I can tell, nothing is "blocked" or restricted other than the terms of the plan. The "unlimited" is limited--it's 5g/month at 4G speed and if you go over that, you get unlimited slower speeds. I haven't ever come close to going over though (I have wifi at home and work though, so maybe that's it?).
I also didn't buy it or sign up at walmart...I got it directly through tmobile.

sorry, i was wrong, the limitations are on walmarts straighttalk plan, which is different than a t mobile plan
