I might xp this to the H&G board. So you if you have a back deck or a porch, what's your lighting like back there. Right now we have a flood light on a motion sensor on our deck but it's broken so really we have nothing. We also want to have lighting out there for when we just want to chill in the evening, etc.
We had two electricians come out for estimates and one suggested we fix the existing fixture and angle it out back towards the back of our yard and that it could sere the dual purpose of having lighting when we're hanging out, but not be too harsh.
The second guy said the motion sensor is useless in the position it is in (pointing down) because someone would have to be right under it to set it off. He suggested we just get a regular outdoor light fixture.
I'm just curious what the norm is. So what do you have off your back deck/patio?
We have 2 typical porch lights facing in different directions - one towards the steps/driveway and one towards the yard. We only use those for task related items - taking out trash, going out to the garage, etc. Then across the yard, our "mood" lighting are strands of globe lights, they're strung back and forth.
Technically we don't have a deck or patio now, but the plan when we do is to just adjust those strands. A few other neighbors have them and I love that it adds a festive atmosphere but isn't tacky like christmas lights.

We are still working on our patio, but the plan is to string solar lights above it. We have a set from ikea that i really like and that work well, so I would want more of something similar.
I suggested the strand lights to DH thinking we'd do that plus the motion sensor but he said he's not sure if they'd look good. I'm like how could they not.

I was shocked that DH suggested them first. And called them "twinkly lights", which I thought was kind of adorable.
On our back porch we have can lights with dimmers. We have corner lights on all 4 corners that are on a motion sensor. We have brick columns with post lights connecting our fence that lights up the back yard. We have solar lights on our dock.
Our deck we have string lights, a pendent light over the kitchen and hanging lights on each post. Each are on dimmers so we can adjust as needed.

We have a couple things. First, we have flood lights that are on a motion detector. They also have a switch in the house so we can manually turn them on and off. Also, the posts on the railing have solar powered lights that are on all night.
We have a regular porch light outside of the patio door that lights up the deck well enough; it's not motion-sensor or anything, though, just on a regular switch. We also have solar-powered mini-lights built into the steps and posts of the deck, but those provide more "mood' lighting than anything else. Those are on a timer.
I really want a ceiling fan on the front porch. Maybe that's our next small project.
Seriously so easy. DH put it up and we got it at Home Depot. If we can do it anyone can.
Oh, yea, I know he can do it, he's put the ceiling fans in in all the bedrooms. Just have to get it and carve out an hour when he's home. And not mowing. Or running.

Lol I get it. DH was supposed to replace all the light bulbs in the house yesterday. Instead he built a computer.... What?

You know... The important things.
These are the kind of things my engineer H does too. I need you to bring in the ladder and change the air filters. I do not need to to take apart the stove vent and re build it.

Yes! Then when I complained DD still didn't have a lightbulb he was all "the computer works" um great maybe she can read in the media room with that? Wtf

I am impressed it was done in a day. Anytime DH "builds or re-builds" a computer, there are random pieces strewn about for weeks while he gets it "just right". Ah the joys of being married to an engineer.
