Dd loves (27 months) melissa and doug reusable stickers Mickey mouse club figurines Animal figurines Play kitchen Puzzles Mega blocks Coloring If she had no other toys she wouldn't even care. She plays with the stickers and animal figurines all day long
Trucks (from matchbox size to almost head size are her preferences) Board games (Candyland, Hi Ho Cherry-O, Jenga, Spot it) Cozy Coupe Art (edging scissors, glue, pom poms, markets, crayons, etc) Melissa and Doug cookie baking set Trampoline Stickers (not necessarily reusable) Doll stroller! She pushes that thing around for hours
She's not into blocks, legos, balance bike, and magna-tiles are on the back burner.
My 18 month old has been into magnatiles for a while. He just takes them apart and sticks them back together. And destroys whatever his sister makes.
He likes anything he can push around. His favorites are a toy stroller, toy shopping cart and anything he can pretend is a toy vacuum.
Play food and a play kitchen are big hits too. He likes to pretend to make food and then have us "try" it. He goes to each family member to give us a taste.
He's not into trucks or cars, which is primarily what he got for Christmas and his birthday. Oh well.
My almost 2 yo is really into balls. Throwing them, kicking them. Just holding one in his hand for later. The kid is obsessed. He also likes to color and play with things that have wheels - cars, trucks etc. he likes the cozy coupe and swinging outside. Sand box is fun but he still throws sand.
The older two are really into dress up. Costumes and elaborate story lines which usually entail my DD ordering her little brother into some sort of Frozen themed submission. Duplos/Lincoln logs/mega blocks etc are fun too. My 3 1/2 yo loves to paint. Hey loves games too, some woozle thing, sneaky snacky squirrel, don't break the ice. DD is still into her bitty baby a lot. She's nearly 5.
I'm finding building stuff and arts/crafts worth the money in the long run.
T is super duper into tower-building blocks, puzzles (we were recently gifted one like this {but without sound} that he loves - plus it offers a little more of a challenge), and balls. He also still loves his tractor that we were gifted when he was 9 mos old and he STILL loves it. Longest running toy to date, for sure.
He really likes trains (Thomas figurines - I found a whole tupperware of them on consignment locally) too. He's starting to like his push trike and really likes his push car.
We gave him one of those iPad keyboard connector things that he loves using as his "computer" (it's connected to nothing - no screen/etc - but whatever works for you kid).
We also got him a kids guitar for his birthday that he really likes.
His favorite thing ever though is still his precious, precious step stool.
Cars, his Fisher Price little golf set, balls, the Step 2 basketball hoop set my parents got him as an early birthday gift (thank god it's at their house because otherwise he'd do nothing else at our house). Any books about things that go-cars, trucks, trains, airplanes.
It is SO fun. You press a button and it gives you an action to do like, "Stomp like a dinosaur" or "Sneak like a fox." Then it plays music appropriate to the action while you do it. C LOVES IT. We play a lot with all 3 of us doing the actions but I've caught her playing with it alone in the playroom too.
My kids are both in between yours but stuff we like:
*mini cars/tractors. Matchbox sort of stuf *books. Esp. the interactive ones/press buttons/generally make noise *Stomp Rocket. Even my 15 month old has it down *Bubbles *Both like sidewalk chalk *trikes/bikes *basketball hoop
