There's so many things to discuss. I don't know where to start. I knew something was going to happen to Deb. I was so heartbroken. I also thought Dexter was going to jump overboard with her. I was very surprised at the end. I loved the growth of Dexter's character. The way he started changing and feeling emotions kept me enamored with him. It's hard to put into words what I'm trying to say! lol
It wasn't my favorite season, but I overall loved the series. I appreciate when the creators know where to end a show. Some of them keep going long after they shouldn't. Grey's is the perfect example of that for me.

I was pissed at how he disposed of Deb. It annoyed me that he thought she deserved the same final resting spot as murderers, kwim?

I was thinking that too. She deserved something better than that. I honestly thought he was going to go down with her.

I think Dexter reached it's peak during season 4 and then it went downhill. I hated the last season and that ending? Please. I starting laughing so I wouldn't cry with disappointment.
I highly recommend reading at least the first 2 or 3 books. They'll give you new insight into Dexter; stuff that wasn't really said on the show, but that Michael C. Hall DEFINITELY incorporated into the character. I never noticed the things he did until I read the books.

Also, the kids play a bigger role in book 3.
I'm glad you said this because I bought the first one last week or so but I haven't started it yet. I wanted to finish the show first.

The first two books are great and parts of the first 2 or 3 seasons were directly from them. After that, the show and the books completely deviate.
There are some pretty major plot differences in the books though.
My favorite thing about reading them was getting more insight into Dexter's killer side; his dark passenger. They didn't get into it in the show, but there are times it is referenced and ways Michael C. Hall incorporates the books' descriptions of what motivates Dexter, without having to say anything. Like his connection to the moon.
