yeah, I don't know what to do about dinner. I pulled some chicken out of the freezer 2 nights ago, but now it's so hot I don't want to cook (and we won't be home for dinner tomorrow, so I feel like I need to do something with it tonight)
Pretty sure it was just a couple weeks ago that this board declared anyone who had a/c in Seattle to be a wuss. I gotta say, I am so very happily playing the wuss card today. Our window unit a/c was the best investment ever... it's a pleasant 74 degrees in my house right now. It felt amazing to walk into after sitting in a hot car. And I'm going to sleep like a baby tonight
That said, dinner is definitely going to be grilled tonight. Not it for turning on the oven or stove.

We may be sleeping in our basement tonight. It's only 81 at our house but the kids' rooms are at 83. And they generally get hotter as the evening goes on because they're on the SW side of the house so they just get blasted.
Again, I'm am remarkably resentful that the house we own in Canada is fully equipped with central air and our tenants are in a bright sunny house, all cool and relaxed. Bastards.
I wish we had A/C. I've been so uncomfortable at home because, no matter what we do, our apartment is always an oven and about 10 degrees hotter than outside. Our blinds suck and don't keep us from roasting even if I lock the whole place up during the hottest part of the day.
ducks and hides with you. our house stays nice and cool. we grilled a delicious steak for dinner. and I even went to hot house and got a massage, haha.

*hanging out with you guys* I'm actually disappointed I'm at work these really warm days because I'd rather be feeling the warmth!
But pregnant women get a pass in my opinion. Go get some AC!
So long as we have a/c, I have no complaints about the weather either and honestly wish I could be outside enjoying it! The only reason I cling to my being a wuss is that it's impossible to sleep when our house is really hot. If it's a work night, I don't fall asleep till 2 or 3 from the heat, and have to be up before 5, life is pretty miserable. If it's a weekend, or if I wasn't working, it wouldn't bother me too much.

Add me to the list. I'm loving the heat! Luckily the house stays pretty cool, so I was able to sleep just fine last night with just a fan.
I do enjoy heat and it's nice to be warm, our house just does NOT stay cool at all! And our upstairs gets horrendous and I am NOT a pleasant person to be around when I don't sleep well. Too hot = bad sleep. AC in the bedroom for sleeping and I can deal with the rest of it.
Oh, don't get me wrong - I'd love it, too. If our house weren't 95 degrees. We're on a hill, and we just BAKE. No basement, no way to cool it off.
We've been sitting int he dark for the last week because I can't even bring myself to turn on lights or open curtains because everything makes it hotter. No one can sleep, the dog is half dead (Newf - thick, thick black fluffy coat) and everyone is just worn out. We can't cook anything in the house because it's getting harder and harder to even take the edge off at night.
I'd love 75 or so. Hot and sunny, but not inescapable.
I'm no heat wuss - we come from central Canada - this is our summer weather. We just got back from two weeks of this or hotter and spent most of that time on the beach or water. But there, we've got AC so everyone can sleep, the house can be cleaned, we can cook and after a day of fun in the sun, we can get out of the heat for awhile.
I just cannot sleep when it's above 90 in the house. 30 years of practice in a place that's this hot for much longer than this little spell hasn't trained me. I wind up tossing and turning all night (or until it cools down).
woo LL! that's awesome! i'm surprised your LO hasn't ever slept that long. mine was doing 6 hours in her first stretch for probably two months...then i started working again and she's reverse cycling, so back to every 2 hours for me.... she also slept once for 9.5 hours.
it wasn't too hot last night, but it was pretty warm. the people who complain about the heat here are not allowed to complain about gray/rain!
I think it just really depends - some houses don't heat up and stay heated up, others soak in the heat late in the day when it's the hottest and don't cool down on their own till the wee hours. My house falls into the latter category - our bedroom and main living areas are on the west facing side of the building. The afternoon sun heats up our house to insane temps, and the house holds in the heat for hours.
I won't be complaining at all when the cold weather hits, but I don't mind this weather either... I just function best w/ a/c

Do you live next door to me?
I'm not complaining about the lovely summer weather. We've spent our days at the beach, the splashpark, ball games, on the water, etc. We've soaked every ounce of fun out of the summer!
I'm complaining about the miserably hot house, and the miserably hot kids. If it were comfortable enough to cook and sleep, then it would be awesome. Instead, it's more than a little whiny and crabby in here with no reprieve from the hot weather.
Also, and I know complaining about the rain is the city's passtime, I loved the mild "winter" last year! It's not cold here, and contrary to the warming we received before moving, it does not rain every day for 9 months of the year. We hiked all "winter" long! That's crazytown coming from a place where it does get cold and snows for 6 months, with 4 months of that being feet of snow that never melts because it's -35 everyday.
Between warnings about the weather and traffic, we've been pleasantly surprised!
