I'm all for a good KC mob, but my dogs would love this deal. Food, attention multiple times per day, and someone to play with them that wasn't an annoying kid? And they are otherwise left to lounge around? Perfect.
I've never left them at our home that long but they have a doggie door into the kitchen where their beds are. They would probably be extra excited when we came home, but being attended to 3 times a day is hardly animal abuse.
Everyone treats their pets differently. My dogs aren't allowed on the furniture, and I never feed them off of our plates (and rarely people food at all). They also spend much of the day outside by choice. To many people (and im guessing some of you) this sounds awful. But they appear happy and healthy, so different strokes and all that.
We've always left our dog at home with our dog-loving neighbor coming by to feed and exercise her. She had a dog door and was free to roam all over our fenced in yard with lots of land, trees, grass. She was allowed anywhere in the house too. We boarded her once at a wonderfully reviewed place and she lost weight and was neurotic for a few days when she returned. She stayed with my aunt once and barely slept. She was always most comfortable at home. I guess it depends on the dog and set-up at home but for our dog someone coming by three times a day would have been best for her and far from neglect.

When I would pet sit, in college, I'd also house sit. I stayed at the owners home. I still worked so when I was gone, pups were kenneled but they got tons of attention otherwise. The most I was ever paid was around $220 for little over a week. I think the lady had 3 dogs and a cat if I remember. Anyway, you might consider something like that in the future...I know care(.com) has an option for pet sitters now.
I also think it is going to depend on the pet and temperament. If you've got a velcro dog who is people driven, then I do think it's kind of cruel to leave him alone for so long. If you're pup is more of a loner or chill just snoozing/romping whole you'really away, good exercise and attention 3 time a day is probably sufficient.

Forget the dogs, I would love this deal!
My dog doesn't get this much attention when I am home! We both work... Who has time to walk the dog three times a day?!
I've used 2 different companies (basically a family business set up) for each visit they spend 30 minutes with your pet. They will walk them if that's what you want or play with them or just give them attention. The pet sitter I currently use charges $15 per visit. He leaves and invoice on the kitchen island during the last visit & several options on how we can pay him. He has a drop box outside his front door, mail him a check or use bill pay from your bank. Out of the 2 companies neither has asked to be paid upfront & they make that clear when we interviewed them.
Edit to add: they also send a text with a picture during each visit.

This seems like a pretty sweet gig. I mean as long as I'm not driving a ton $15 to play with a dog is not bad. Good thing there are people who love there dogs more than I do

It is a pretty good deal because we have a cat too so the $15 includes him too. We started using a pet sitting service when our dog became too old to go to a kennel. She was blind & deaf & it really took it's toll on her. She was much more comfortable & way less stressed when we used a pet sitter. Sadly we lost her a few months ago but she was almost 16 & a german shepherd mix so it she had a long happy life.
