I'm so irritated w/ the vet right now. I took our dog in the 2nd day we had her, because, you know, I didn't know what the hell I was doing with a dog, but figured a vet visit is the place to start. Get her on file there, etc. She'd been de-wormed by the rescue, but never re-checked. The vet saw that, and also didn't re-check. Being a new dog owner, I didn't know that she was even supposed to HAVE a follow-up screen post-de-worming treatment, so I went on thinking everything's fine. And this vet has been amazing in all other aspects for our other pets, so I had no reason to question their judgement.
Go to book her for a few daycare sessions where she'll board in 18 days for our trip OOT (get her used to the facility, etc), and she needs a negative fecal screen. I call the vet, they're oh, I'm SURE she's fine, no worries bring in a sample it will be easy-peasy. So I take in a sample on Monday, they say if I haven't heard anything by Tuesday morning, she's fine, and can go ahead to daycare. I hear nothing yesterday morning, and think great. So I take her, and they fax her records to the daycare saying she's up to date and everything's good to go. Then TODAY, I get a call saying she's actually positive.
WHAT THE FUCK.
We're supposed to be leaving to go OOT with the IL's in 18 days. It's not a pet-friendly rental house. Pet place we've booked to board her requires a negative screen, which I can't get now, because I can't re-test for 30 days from today, the first day of treatment. And I probably need to call the daycare to tell them too, but I've got half a mind to have the vet's office do this, because they are the ones who gave me the go-ahead in the first place.
I can't even imagine the shit storm from MIL that's going to happen if I have to stay home from this because of my dog. Right now it looks like my only options are to 1) try find a boarding facility that doesn't require a negative worm test (does that even exist?), 2) try to book her at the vet - but I'm REALLY opposed to this because it's not a fun playful place. It's basically a kennel, and they don't do daycare type stuff, or 3) see if one of our babysitters who has mentioned pet-sitting is available and wiling to live at our house for a week while there is a construction crew ripping apart the bathroom.

Wow. That really sucks. 1, I would make the vet call and admit their mistake to the daycare facility. 2, I've never had to show a negative test for worms when we've boarded our dogs, so I'd try looking for other places as well as start asking people who said they would pet sit. Good luck! You will find a way.
Does the treatment actually take 30 days to work? If the Vet can verify that she's on treatment and not contagious, I wonder if they can speak directly to the Pet Place, since the vet is really at fault here for not following up in the first place.
ETA: Never mind. A quick Google tells me that it's not like going on antibiotics.

I'd have had no idea either. Can you call the vet and firmly but politely explain that they have to help you fix this. Does it really take 30 days? Is there like a 10 day speed treatment that would be sufficient?
H isn't comfortable leaving her alone in the house for that long with just someone coming in and out a few times a day, and she is really nervous around new people, so I don't know if that would work. It took her 3 hours to warm up to the daycare facility.

Many dog sitters will stay at your house while you are gone.
Rover it! But make sure the sitter knows and doesn't have any other dogs staying with them.
Ooh, that site looks promising. thank you!
We're using someone from rover this weekend. She seems great and agreed to hang at our house on Saturday evening so our dog won't be alone for the fireworks.
