I want to make cabbage steaks. Ideas for side dishes?
I'm making an Asian inspired salad. I got the recipe from the mom of one of DS's classmates. It calls for the noodles from a packet of ramen noodle soup (discard the flavor packet). I'm assuming all the MSG/sodium is in the flavor packet so the noodles are okay? Or is there a better/healthier alternative?
If a recipe calls for a cup of crushed crackers like ritz, can I use Panko bread crumbs instead?
I think that's all for now! DH has always done the majority of the cooking (okay all of it) but I'm starting to learn my way around a kitchen

Just fyi, those noodles are fried, so though most of the salt/MSG is coming from the packet, all the fat and calories are definitely in the noodles.
I had to google cabbage steaks. Maybe serve with a side of corned beef?
It might depend on the recipe for the Panko/Ritz substitution. Ritz is saltier and has more flavor, so the Panko will probably need some extra seasoning.
I've never heard them called cabbage steaks and I'm pretty sure my very agreeable dh would not agree to cabbage as the main course, but I do serve that as a side dish

Thanks for the tips.
As far as the cabbage....do you all never eat dishes that are mainly veggie? We eat several meals a week with no meat. It's not an unusual meal for us

No. My DH would never complain but he'd start making menu suggestions. All of which would involve meat! Texas. Beef. Stereotypes. All that jazz. True here!

Lol. My meatless meals consist of skillet meals with quinoia/pasta. And usually cheese. Not slabs of cabbage. But I am intrigued by the dish.

My dh doesn't eat vegetables. At all pretty much (there are a few exceptions but nothing at all that would constitute a main dish). And he's a doctor. He used to say..."when we get married" that became "when we have kids" that became "when they are old enough to notice" that finally faded away to this is the way I am and I'm not going to change. I'm grateful I get my kids to eat veggies as a side dish. They won't touch cabbage though. And tbh I only like it in slaw form.
I've had cauliflower prepared that way, just not cabbage. I know nothing about ramen, not my thing. I always sub panko for any other bread crumb, it's much crispier.

I went on one date with a guy who said the only veggie he ate was French fries. I couldn't do it.
We eat lots of meatless meals, but they always feature quinoa, legumes, or dairy. Cabbage steaks sound like a good start, but I need more protein to keep me full.
