We are heading out of town in the morning, and I want a good audiobook we can play for DD (and the rest of us) that will last a good chin knot the drive (4ish hours). Any suggestions? We've been reading a lot of early chapter books - Mercy Watson, Ivy and Bean, Anna Hibiscus - so she could be into that as opposed to a collection of short stories. I was looking at Clementine...has anyone read it? Would it be okay for a precocious 5 yo girl?
My kids love any book on CD - I get them from the library - favorites are Fancy Nancy, Mrs. Piggle Wiggle, Sideways Stories from Wayside School, Charlottes Web, Berenstain Bears…they have Junie B Jones, too, and tons of classics. I'm sure we've listened to others but that's just off the top of my head.
Anyone having Herself the Elf and Leo the Lop flashbacks??
Not sure about the first, but was the second one of those books from the grade school book order with a cute animal on the cover and a life lesson at the end of the story?

I can't wait until DD is old enough for Mrs. Piggle Wiggle and Sideways Stories From Wayside School!! Some of my favorites.
What about the Ramona series? I plan on starting that soon with my 4.5 year old. Fancy Nancy and Pinkalicious are her current faves but they aren't long enough for road trips.

My 8 year old read both sideways and all the piggle wiggle books this year, she loved them.

These are awesome, thank you. I think I will get a few Ramina books. We listened to Mrs. Piggle Wiggle a while ago, and she loved it. We have the complete Fancy Nancy audiobook collection, which runs about three hours, so that's an option if the idea of something new doesn't fly.
Update for anyone who is interested: Ramona the Pest was a huge hit, and probably saved our sanity. There was a bad accident that shut down the freeway, and we were stuck barely moving for well over an hour. Our normally 3-4 hour drive took 6. It was not ideal. But the kids did pretty well considering we all had to pee, we ran out of snacks, and all iPod batteries died. Ramona was awesome, DD loved it and has already asked to listen to another on the drive home tomorrow. Thanks for all the suggestions!
