Just administered the semiannual xanax at casa Fasty to our 2 terriers. Let's hope that's enough to keep them calm during my neighbor's commercial-grade fireworks display. Happy 4th! ::turns up the tv::
Tonight should be pretty quiet, I think everyone is at the big show downtown. Tomorrow is going to be bad though, I wish I had drugs for them!
Call your vet! The first year we had these digs, they went NUTS alllllll night. And they snarl/snap at each other when they are that riled. I mentioned it to the vet before new year's, and he called in some xanax. One each, and they're mellowed enough that they just don't give a shit.
Fireworks are illegal in my city, though I did hear a few go off a couple of nights ago, it's not going to be a constant thing. I'm sorry your pups have to put up with the noise, but thank goodness doggie xanax works!
No drugs but just keeping the tv on or music going and hoping it blocks most of it out. Tomorrow will be worse noise wise but tonight will be bad because dh won't be home for a bit and the dog freaks when there are loud noises going (fireworks, thunder....) and he can't see both of his people.

They're illegal here, too, but so widespread that it isn't enforced this weekend and nye.

Well then I am furious at your neighbors for setting off a whole arsenal of fireworks. It would be one thing to sneak a couple, but to do a bunch is infuriating considering.

Tilly had a regular checkup yesterday but they have us 20 Xanax because she is ridiculous in the car (and other times) and we were on our way out of town.
It didn't work well last night for the car trip but I did give her one this afternoon when she was freaking out and she seems to be better. I think the swimming all day helped, too.

Our vet warned us that you really have to do it like an hour before fireworks start. If they are stressed out, it is rarely effective at DE-stressing, but it can make them not get stressed in the first place if you time it well.
There are dogs that fight sedation in general, though. My last dog fought HARD when he was sedated after a surgery. He was stressed as all hell and more hyper than ever.

That's super good to know. She was already fired up from being at the vet all day so I guess I'm not surprised that it didn't work.
My 5 month old pup is oblivious that there's anything going on.
My 2 year old pup is an anxious mess tonight. Then it got quiet at about 10 pm til five minutes ago. (It's currently 11:30pm.)[Though really, he's been super anxious since we moved in with ILs.] He will hightail it to my side at the first boom, and generally will not leave my side.
I expect tomorrow night to be worse. We're staying in with him, and hoping the a/c window units and tv help somewhat. We can't access ILs basement, so that's out. H is considering trying Benadryl on him tomorrow.
A poor scared pup showed up at my parents house tonight. They live out in the country so who knows how far it ran from. It was terrified.
Awwww, poor thing. DH and I found an italian greyhound one new year's day. We found its owners that night, and they said they were having a party and someone was coming in or out right when the fireworks started, and homeboy just bolted. So sad!
So...uhh...I have some Xanax prescribed to me from awhile ago. Would it be wrong to google the dosage for a dog and give her that?
Our dog is 75lbs and on 1mg......not sure if that helps you or not. I would probably go ahead and give it as a one time thing until you can ask about it later.

We just got our puppy yesterday. She's 8 weeks old. We've had her like 20 hours so I'm not sure how she'll react. She seemed fine with the few random fireworks last night but I know there will be a lot more tonight.
