I'm visiting my sister and new little niece. Obviously I know purified is probably always a better option to use, but from your experience do you use tap water to mix your formula bottle or should you always be using purified water?
I'm asking because I wanted to know people's opinions and experiences.
With my other nieces and nephews they had me use purified. My sister so far has just been using tap water and my mom is freaked out about it. She's worried about sporadic water contaminants like e.coli and not hearing about it soon enough.
I always used those giant bottles of purified water with the spout on the front. I kept it in the cupboard with her bottles, so it was easy to access and dispense.
We didn't make a lot of bottles, but when we did we used filtered tap water (from our fridge dispenser). I'm pretty sure his daycare used straight tap water when mixing bottles.
Bottled. I am super picky about the taste of water. The water here tastes gross. We get those big 5 gallon bottles of purified water for our house and drink bottled when out and about. Even the filtered water here doesn't taste that good.
The majority of our formula use was when we had well water. I still used it, filtered though our Brita. No way am I buying water AND formula.
We have well water too. It gets tested regularly because of the farm. It's perfectly safe. It came back high-ish in a couple minerals but nothing dangerous. I used the filtered fridge dispenser for a little "Extra" but I don't think it mattered. My pedi said it was just fine. We also have decent tasting water here. My old did not. Ran out of the tap smelling weird and straight yellow.
I buy the gallons of nursery water. I'm sure it's no better than tap, but it makes me feel slightly better and I'm indulging my neurosis since it's not expensive.

I thought that the official recommendation was not to use well water before 6 months. We use salt to filter our water, so that combined with the added potential of e.coli makes me a little nervous. If you leave a bowl of water to evaporate there will definitely be salt left (at least for our water).
Our municipal water has fluoride so we did distilled water mostly because it comes in the big jugs.
I hated making formula in the beginning. You were so worried about contamination. Making sure everything was super sterile and not out too long. Washing my hands so much, I had to get cream to fix the dryness. I was so jealous of Breastfeeding for that. I was boiling bottles and The lids and I bought a glass stirrer to avoid plastic. Trying not to touch the sides of the inserts. Then you dropped a bottle or the baby knocked it over. Meanwhile, breastfeeders were just lifting their shirt.
Then the baby was bigger and you didn't even care. Lol.
