Dh wants to do this for his 40th birthday in 2017. (His birthday is tomorrow) we have a ton of time and this is a good motivator to make some big changes.
Anyone do this? We have several friends who have done it and know the gist but curious what you did.
I climbed it back in 2010. I was in nearly marathon shape, so I didn't train specifically for that, but a few people that went with us trained by doing countless hours of stairmaster (the rotating staircase kind, not the easy one). It was an awesome trip! I vote 'go for it'!

What route did you take and do you remember your operator? We are compiling a list.
My husband and I climbed it in 2011. He did the stair master a lot to train, but I didn't do anything special, just my normal walking-as-transportation (live in NYC). I can't remember the name of our route, but it was the "easy" one with huts. It wasn't technically challenging until the last leg; just a lot of walking. The people in my group ranged in fitness levels, but most summitted. One man quit pretty early on, but he later complained about "long" walks from tent to bathroom on safari, so... The others who couldn't make it up all had to stop because of altitude sickness, so nothing that training could've helped.
We booked a climb-safari-beach package through GAP Adventures, and it was great.

(Popping over from April 2012)
Would you mind sharing the rough cost of this? Sounds very intriguing!
