I hesitate to write this b/c we are only in our second week of summer break and I don't want to think about summer ending, but anyways, when do your kids go back? DD starts first grade on September 9th.

September 8 - Canadian signing in. We never return before Labour Day and it's SO weird to me that some schools in the US are starting up again in July/August.
DS1 starts transitional kindergarten August 11th at the local elementary school.
I'm probably going to have a baby right around that time - so I've been totally focused on that and haven't really given him starting a whole new school much thought. Oops!
August 19. The school district moved the start date back by two school days this year so we can have a week off at Thanksgiving rather than three days.
I am sort of torn as to how I feel about them going back. It is nice to not have four kids under foot all day long and arguing/whining about random stuff but I am rather fond of my kids and I enjoy them when they are being nice/non-whiny.

September 4. It's so bizarre to me that we're returning before Labor Day (and the Friday before, which is also weird) but Labor Day is late and there are so many other days off in the beginning of the year that it's the only way they could do it.
DD starts the last week of August bc her charter school does an extended school year. Otherwise, most of the schools around us start at the same as bronxgirl's DD.
In what states does the school year begin in July? That would really mess with my head. Growing up, our school year was always Sept-June.
DD starts kindergarten on 8/19. DS1 P-3 after Labor Day, I believe. I have two conflicting schedules but the website is saying the week after Labor Day.
This explains why all the stores have back to school ads.
I grew up in CO and our school year (after my elementary years when it was still more of a Sept to June year) was late August to Mid May. But I think that has moved up in recent years.
