So at my new job (which starts next week, btw!), the health insurance premiums cost approximately $2500 for one person for a year.
If one declines health insurance coverage, the employer gives employee $3100.
At my H's employer, it costs approximately $4200 to add me to his plan. His plan is 100 times better than the plan at my new job, most importantly because the specialist I see (neuro-opthalmologist) is out of network in new job plan but in network at H's plan.
It is a no brainer to get on H's insurance, right? The net cost when you figure out that employer will give me $3100 for declining their insurance is only $1100 to be on H's plan, which is better because specialists are in network.
This is what we do, albeit with different numbers. So I certainly hope it makes sense! But it sounds right to me. Go with the better coverage and subsidize with your opt-out money.
That's what we do. MH's insurance is way better, and costs us $225/mo for the family plan, and my work gives me $150 to opt out. Your numbers sound like a no brainer!

Definitely go on your H's. The employer is giving you $3100 and not charging $2500 so you have $5600 and pay $4200 for a net increase of $1400, right? Or is the $2500 the employer's cost and they are just giving you $3100? Either way, I would go with your H's plan.
So you'll be paying $1100 for your husband's plan vs. $2500 for yours, and his is better? Yes, that sounds like a no-brainer to me.
Yes this is what it comes down to. Thanks ladies. It is like $6000 total for my Hs plan for employee + spouse but it is $2000 for employee only so I'm calculating the difference because he has to pay for his plan for himself regardless. He doesn't want to go on my employers plan because his job doesn't offer a buyout like mine.
Oh and also the employer pays like $4500 of the yearly premium at my new job so employer comes out ahead of employees take $3100 payout and decline insurance.

That's how mine is too! My employer makes out, but since I get better coverage at a better deal for me, I do it.
