DH is on vacation this week so I told him I wanted to do one fun outing. Last night we decided the zoo. But now I am rethinking it. DD is 23 months, the zoo is an hour away, and it will be 90+ degrees. I think she would love it, she loves animals, but now I am like ugh, it's expensive and hot out. Bite the bullet and go or find something else to do?

I would still do the zoo but ours has a lot of shade. What are your other options? It seems like the pool/beach/splash pad are the only things that would solve the heat issue if you want to be outside.

Yeah, that's the problem, we don't have a ton of "different" options. We went to a splash pad the other day. We don't have a beach close by, but DD and I did the Lake beach/water park a couple days ago.
I don't know if our zoo has a lot of shade as it's been easily 15 years since I have gone! Maybe that's a sign we should go! I hate being indecisive!
I would also do the zoo on a cooler day. Neither myself or the kids do heat well.
If it was me I'd just go back to the pool. It's been a highlight of summer around here. It's fun, it's easy it's a good energy burn. Built in entertainment.
Take her to the store and pick out a craft kit to do? Go out to lunch after. Play up your errands? DD loves those days. She feels all grown up or something.
I'd try the Children's Museum? Even with bad reviews she's 22 months old and probably won't know the difference. Unless the reviews are "2 exhibits, the place hasn't been cleaned in years and the tree exhibit had no safety net!"
Any friends you could have come over? The other highlight here is the cousins are of school, so they've been over to play once a week or so. Super fun.
PICNIC!!! My DDs LOVE to picnic. To make it easy we pick up Subway on the way. Then we go to either a "new" playground (ie one we don't go to often) or we have a ton of parks with "hiking" trails (all through the woods so plenty of shade). We'll go eat lunch at a picnic table and then play or hike (I use that term very loosely) for a hour. It won't solve your heat problem, but will save you two hours in the car and the expense of the zoo.
We are considering Babyland General, which is the Cabbage Patch Doll Hospital. Lots of dolls and toys for her to play with. And it's inside
OMG! Wanna take my DD? She adores that place. They have easily sucked $500 out of her (birthday gifts and allowance over the years). It's the bomb. There is also a cave near Dahlonaga where you can gem mine, and the museum on the square is cool and brief. The potter on the corner will give kids pieces of clay to play with.
If you go to the zoo, there is a really nice public pool in Grant Park, just on the other side from the zoo, with a splash area.

It was so fun! DD had a great time playing with all the toys, I am sure we will go back!

So glad! The "birth" kills me. Especially, since it is often performed by a 20 year old boy. I can see that guy on a date, "I deliver at babyland". Watch out though, DD got into the "original sculptures" $220+ a pop. We have two. She saved and saved to buy them, and has an enabling "auntie" who fills in when she is close.

Yeah, we were laughing at "Dr Isaac". He was kind of an odd bird. Maybe your DD's will be worth 15K one day!!
