I know there are a couple of you, but I can't remember who exactly. So next week I get to start weight bearing. I have a visit to the orthopedist and I am assuming he will tell me how to go about this process. I also start PT next week and I am assuming that will help as well. Does it takes days? Weeks? I am so excited! I am so sick of this! I want my summer back!
Good. I am on Xeralta now instead of coumadin. I get to go home today. I follow up with my PCP on Friday, so they can monitor this for the next 3 months. I am supposed to see my ortho next week, but they may change it to see me sooner, but I doubt there are any available appointments.

It's been a very long "vacation".
I don't know if I've mentioned, but I have a pulmonary embolism. I'm being monitored by my pcp and at least that part is super easy. It takes about 10 minutes once a week and I don't even need an appointment. I'm on coumadin, but since you aren't it may be even easier. Small things to be thankful for! Also, having "vacation" as teachers is a blessing to some degree for us....I guess lol

I do not have to get weekly INRs with xeralta. By monitoring I mean I have to have a visit with my PCP because they were not the ones that saw me last week because I was out of state. They just need to put all of this info in my files and that's pretty much it. They put me on xeralta because "You are young and healthy!" Say that again please... I'm what??
I started PT like 4 days post surgery and did pool jogging and biking before I was fully weight bearing. It was maybe 4ish weeks before I was fully weight bearing. It seems like my practice was the exception not the rule as the doctors and PTs were all in the same facility and the doctors would pop in during PT sessions to see how things were going. I think I ended up doing 8ish total weeks of PT.

How on earth did you start PT 4 days post surgery? I was in so much pain and I was on a lot of painkillers. I didn't even want to get out of bed to go to the bathroom.
My injury was slightly different as my break was the tibia, but up by my knee. I had surgical repair with metal put in and was non weight bearing for about 10 weeks total for injury to cleared to start putting weight on.
Honestly I think I went from non weight bearing to no crutches in less than a week. I dealt with swelling and pain, but single and childless at the time, I was able to just decide how much I wanted to push at that point. I think I did a few days of walking with two crutches, then one day of one crutch, which was somehow more awkward and horrible, and then I ditched the stupid things altogether after that.
It will be different for every injury and every person, so just listen to your therapists and your body. Good luck - it is so liberating to use both legs again.
I broke my ankle (fractured fibula and snapped tibiofibular ligament) at the beginning of June 2013. Surgery mid-June. Horrible infection til mid July. After that, it took me 3ish weeks of at-home exercises and gradual weight-bearing to start walking again.
All-in-all, I was non-weight bearing for June, July, and most of August. I actually never did "formal" PT - my surgeon instructed me to do some exercises at home and I regained full mobility in my ankle from those alone.
I'm sorry you're going through this. It sucked royally for me.

I definitely wasn't in that much pain, so I'm sure that made it easier. The first couple of weeks weren't really that strenuous, they were just super icing and stretching (which sucked big time) and then we moved onto the bike/pool and balance stuff.

If one more doctor tells me I'm too young and healthy to be so sick I may question their credentials! lol I'm glad you can avoid the INRs.

How are you doing back at home? Feeling better?
Taking it day by day. I'm still at my parents' with nurse dad. Fourth of July wore me out and it took a few days to rebound, but I feel really good today. Tomorrow I get my staples out! I'm hoping I feel up to going to my house next week, buy I still have moments of dizziness and that makes me nervous to be alone. We shall see.

That's good to hear! Xeralto is so much easier to be on that coumadin. Having to constantly check INRs is such a pain in the butt!!
