“Life is not orderly. No matter how we try to make it so, right in the middle of it lose a leg, fall in love, drop a jar of applesauce.” - Natalie Goldberg

Were the other two people who showed up and started filming with them originally? Or were they bystanders who realized what was going on and wanted to help?
Why aren't these people being fired? Or at least their jobs threatened for denying marriage licenses?
Well according to some of the comments (don't read them, really. Not good for you) - because these poor state workers are just exercising their constitutional rights to practice their religion and not encourage sodomy. Or something. Ugh.

Is the County being targeted by the suit as well, or just the clerk? Should the county uphold some responsibility for an elected/appointed (some clerks are appointed, I'm not sure what the situation is here?) official openly refusing to follow the law without any apparent backlash?

They seemed aggressive to me. Like 'if you film us/them, I'm going to film you right back.' sort of think.

Fuckfaces.
No, the one guy had a SUPPORT shirt on, which makes me think he must have been with them. ETA - And the woman with the couple thanked them at one point, too.
The clerks are elected, so there is no way to remove or fire them. They can be charged with a misdemeanor offense of failing to do their jobs. The governor has repeatedly told the clerks in the two holdout counties to do their jobs or quit.

Thanks for this clarification! I know we have some safeguards in place in our county (my grandparents / parents are all involved in local politics) but different states / local policies obviously vary so I wasn't sure.

This is good to know. CE&P was all AGHAST that all 3 clerks quit in Decatur, TN, but what would they rather happen? This?!

I'm glad they quit so this shit wasn't pulled.
I'm here. I mean, in an ideal world, they all just do their job and things are all peachy. But if they alternative if this crap, then yeah, just quit.
I have to think that on some level, they KNOW they're being assholes. I mean, they ask to not be filmed, so they don't want their faces associated with proof of them blatantly defying the law.
Ladies of the Rowan County clerk's office - stand up and be heard! You believe in this so staunchly, right down to your core, right? Why try to hide? Unless, you know, you don't want permanent documentation of your bigoted, judgmental, law-breaking, hiding behind religion asshattery to be known far and wide. I'd think you'd be proud of your "Christian" beliefs, and want ERRYBODY to know that you're fighting the good fight for Jesus!
Well, YOUR Jesus. The blonde one, with the pretty white robes and soft golden glow around him. Not the dark skinned, poor dude who hung out with outcasts and other misfits who left their jobs to be unemployed and follow this guy. DEFINITELY not that guy. Ugh, filthy hippie liberals.

I do have a question, the one lady mentions "We're not issuing licenses, even for other couples" does she mean only other same sex couples or all couples?

They are not offering any marriage licenses. Straight and gay couples alike must go to another county to get a license.
