We paid $60 OOP because we had met our deductible with DDs birth.
The info packet from H's urologist listed the cost of the procedure as an FYI for those with no insurance or who had not yet met the deductible. It was $1400-ish, IIRC. (We're in the mid-west.)
DH is military so his was totally free. . But he couldn't go to the urologist that uses lasers and stuff instead of needles and scalpels so he was sill bummed. Lol.
page, when were your H's tests done? My H's urologist said to wait until 4 mos post surgery to do the test because there is a risk it could grow back and this usually happens during that time frame. So he had it done in August and tested in December. But I feel like your H's second test was later than this?

DH had it done for free since he got it done through the VA (disabled vet). I don't know how much it would have been using our normal insurance...
BTW I think it's crap that women can get their tubes tied for free under the new Affordable Care Act, but men can't get a vasectomy for free. Especially since a vasectomy is a less invasive/time consuming surgery.

V early September 14 First test early November 14, came back with sperm present so they advised to retest later Second test late December 14, came back 100% clear, no sperm Third "page is paranoid" test March 15, came back with sperm present again.
I did not get the exact numbers on the sperm present after the first test but after the third test he was producing about 50% the "normal" volume of sperm.
He has an appointment with a different urologist next week to discuss what happened and next steps, but if he has another V, he will need to get clear tests for a year or maybe more before I will feel comfortable getting my IUD out.

This scares me. H just had the one test in December which came back with zero sperm.

I think what happened to us was really rare--either it grew back or there was a lab error, and either of those things would be crazy uncommon. But there is definitely no harm in checking again. H's urologist recommended followup checks at 6 months and 1 year even with a prior zero result.
DH had his three weeks ago. We just got the insurance paperwork, and total cost was about $1,800 (for the laser procedure-not the scalpel procedure--scalpel was more expensive). Our out of pocket, after insurance is about $185. The urologist only requires one clear test at least 12 week after the V to be given the all clear, and charges $25 for each thereafter. DH and I already decided we're going to get two (or possibly three) before we consider him "all clear."
