DS1 is going to be starting kindergarten in the fall. As an obsessed bag-lover, I am excited about picking out the backpack. I see so many cute ones that are personalized. I wouldn't get his name, but is it totally dorky to get initials on a bag? It is so cute but I don't want to be that mom.....
If it's dorky, then I will happily be dorky with you! I've been eyeing some cute bags for DD and she's only starting preschool. I don't even know if she'll really even need a backpack!
DD2 has just her first initial embroidered on her backpack. I don't like traditional monograms but I like initials (in their actual order) if that makes sense.
I'd do it. I love monogrammed stuff. Half the house stuff I buy lately is monogrammed.
DDs PreK bag will be monogrammed too as soon as I get to it.
She loves monograms too.
I see a ton of lettered bags at work and it's actually great for ID purposes. You'd be amazed at how kids can't pick their own backpack out of a pile of 10 otherwise. Esp. if there is a lot of one color. Kids don't always see the details just the color.

DS1 has has initials on his backpack AND lunch box (from Lands End). It's as much a way to identify them as his as it is for the cuteness factor. That kid loses stuff all the time.

Just put his name somewhere in the bag as well. As a teacher , I can't tell you how hard it is for your brain to connect that Steve Jones is "SJE" or whatever when the bag is left somewhere around the school/room.

We just ordered DD1's today. She had wanted a Frozen backpack, but ultimately opted for the fairy one from PBK. She wanted her name on her lunchbox and pencil bag, but not on her backpack. She is pretty particular about her clothing and accessories, so I'm glad I asked her first.

Why wouldn't you get his name? I think it's a great way for children to learn how to spell their name! Otherwise, I think monogram is perfectly fine. (but the monogram means nothing to the kid, fyi;)

My kid's bag has a patch I sewed on. I bought a backpack at the outlet store that had someone else's initials on it, I took the initials off with a seam ripper and I covered up the small stitching holes with the patch. Very MM!

We use backpacks for more than school. I don't like to have their names just out there for people to see and strangers to be able to call them by name. I recognize this as my foible.
