What techniques do you use to make the transition easy on the child?
My son is 13months and I am ready to only nurse morning and night. He just plays around or bites and pokes. That said, he wants to nurse all the time. He claws at me, pulls down my shirt, and is pretty beastly if I refuse. As soon as he latches on for a few minutes, even if he doesn't get any milk, he is so happy again.
Maybe he is too young and needs this, but honestly I am so tired of being available all day like this.
I just weaned my 13 month old, dropping one session a week, and replacing with wcm. She has been obsessed with her paci since we stopped nursing, so maybe you could offer a paci during the day, since it sounds like he is mostly comforting himself by nursing?
My supply took a pretty massive hit so weaning just seemed natural for us. We did morning and night for a few weeks and then it didn't seem like he was getting anything at all and we stopped. He is so easily distracted by anything that directing his attention elsewhere was pretty easy.
My dd is almost 13 months and I feel you. She's terrible with bottles so it's making it worse. I'm trying to offer formula in bottle or sippy cups during the day for now, and allowing her to nurse before bed and in the morning for now.
Honestly we are failing so I hope someone else has good advice!
