H is a ru.ral mail car.rier, he was in an accident yesterday. The cop called it dual fault and wrote them both a ticket, and they are pretty hard nosed about that in his office. He was stopped on a country road sorting his mail for the last section of the route. A girl came flying along and into the back of him. She said she never even saw him even though he has a HUGE flashing yellow light. She actually told him she was on her way to rehab, and he didn't even tell the cops that, ugh. There were no skid marks, she never hit the brakes.
He can't work without his right hand drive vehicle, and they told him to come in at 830 this morning for a meeting. This is going to probably be really bad.
**They took his accident report and put him on emergency leave, he is supposed to go give his statement at 9am on Monday morning. He just talked to the union rep who told him to show up and answer every question with " I want union rep present to answer" and file his own grievance. They don't have a rep in his office so they will have to schedule at his availability to come to our town. According to rep odds aren't great, if they do fire him and he goes to court in Sept. and they throw out his ticket he can try to get his job back. The PO mostly does what they want, so I'm not really feeling good about the outcome.
There is a union but his office has a history of this being a dead end. He goes to court in Sept for it and the state trooper told him they would "probably throw it out". I'm just afraid it won't make a difference. We also woke up and his 92 year old grandmother that lives with us had stopped up all our plumbing with who knows how many rolls of toilet paper. DD left for London yesterday, she is 22 and doesn't live at home but I still see her often so I'm going to miss her, and worry so much.
Hopefully his boss is good about it. Even though I don't think he was at fault, maybe he'll just get probation or something and not get outright fired. Especially if this is his first offense and hasn't ever had issues. It'd be different if it was a chronic behavior/issue. But it seems like a big jump to fired of it's a first offense, especially since it seems like the girl who hit him is mostly at fault.
In Tennessee the court date is always on the ticket. He's worked there 3 1/2 years and been written up once before for accidentally delivering a package that needed a signature, that was about a year ago. Never any traffic violations.
How does he have a court date already when the accident was yesterday? ^o) Why are you so nasty? Would it really kill you to offer a little support? I mean we've been listening to you blather on about your clot for a week.

It was a question. I have never heard of getting a court date as soon as a ticket has been written. How is it that being nasty? I wanted to know. So I asked.

"I was thinking about getting off on demand, but it sounds like I should be glad that I didn't"

It did kind of come off as suspicious, but it didn't necessarily warrant that level of vitriol. However, it depends on the county/parish. Some places have certain days where they deal with traffic violations/issues in Court. So it is possible for the cop to assign a date, if their system works that way.
