Should I pursue this opportunity

I can't decide.

UK company opening in the US.. Would be 3rd US hire.

Work with people I like. Could work from home or office (office is less than 20 min. from my house and close to the private school I want boys to go to once they hit 4/5 grade.

Money would probably be at least double what I made last year but current job probably has more "upside" if the economy gets better.

Downsides-a lot of unknowns. Would the product take off? Also it would mean I'm not even tangentally use my law degree any more. I might have to actually work :-)

Sounds awesome to me, if you have reason to leave what you're currently doing. I assume you're in a position to take risks financially because of where your income fits in to the total household picture.

Ditto y4m. I say go for it unless you absolutely can't take financial risks right now. Sounds like the benefits are much more than the drawbacks.

I would pursue it. It sounds like it would be great for your family - you being close to your kids' school and also having the option to work from home. And if you will like the people you're working with, that's a huge bonus!

Well, what would happen if the product didn't take off and you were out of a job? Could you swing it without your paycheck for a while? Do you think you could find a job fairly easily and quickly?

In my personal situation, I am unable to take risks like that with unknowns, because we couldn't afford our house or my medication without my paycheck. But if we could swing it, I would love for DH or I to be able to take a risk and end up doing something that we really enjoy.

If you can swing it, I think I'd be inclined to go for it. My only question is what happens if the product doesn't take off? Would you be out of a job in a year? If so, how hard would it be for you to get another one?

I think you've wanted a change for a while and this sounds like it could be exciting. I'd definitely consider it.

The unknown always exists. There are plans and then what happens. Control is an illusion.
Go for it. Deal with what happens.

I totally understand the fear of the unknown, but I think you should challenge yourself and take this opportunity. Let us know what happens.
