Spanking is legal and done by the majority of parents I know. There is a huge difference between spanking and beating a child. Like I said if I am ever in doubt I will call.
I have seen kids who are being sexually abused and kids with cigarette burns still with their abusers so I know removing kids is hella hard. The population of kids I work with are not only more likely to be abused but also less likely to be removed.
Why are the kids you work with less likely to be removed?
Placement can be very difficult for kids with complex special needs and medical issues.
Placement can be very difficult for kids with complex special needs and medical issues.
Do they get increased monitoring or some other intervention in place of possibly being removed?
The PC answer? Of course. The real answer? The ball is dropped a lot with this population it's not social workers fault they are understaffed and over worked.
Yes all through work. Honestly it's why a lot of the call CPS crap around here gets an eyeroll from me. The crap I have seen is the stuff nightmares are made of.
This.
I've called 911 a bunch (fires, car accidents, assaults on the street) but I've only ever called CPS because of students I've had (teacher, mandatory reporter).
I roll my eyes at the "that child is AT THE PLAYGROUND ALONE, CALL CPS!" comments. I have never even thought that about someone calling for suspected abuse.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
Yes, on our previous neighbors. (Cops were called too.) three separate occasions of significant violence that we actually saw: father hitting the mother so hard she had a broken nose, father yanking child off swing set then hitting him with a belt, 7yo beating the family dog with a belt.

This is bugging me. Did you see someone hit their kid with an object? Like a belt or a stick or something? I know this is my issue, but I could never speak to someone again if I saw them doing that. You don't fucking use objects to assault *children*.

No, never saw a kid hit with an object. That would be a call no doubt.
I've witnessed a slap on the face which really bothered me. I've also witnessed people who are just constantly yelling/spanking kids for every infraction no matter how minor as pretty much the only way the parents are interacting with the child. Like to the point my oldest was scared.

I've called 911 twice when I heard a very obvious domestic battery in progress in two different places. My sister called 911 and CPS became involved when she saw two toddlers crying in a yard alone and no one answered when she knocked. Police confirmed they were home alone and took a report from her.

and you still hang out with these people? I wouldn't talk to someone who thought it was okay to slap a child in the face. And they obviously think it is okay if they do it in front of you.

Who says she hangs out with them. Look you know KC and I are oil and water but it seems you are on her for no reason.

Not one on one, no. A friends SIL I witness at multiple parties a year.

I'm not on her, just wondering how you see people like that because it is disgusting behavior and she doesn't strike me as the type to beat her kids. Sorry if that came across as an attack kc. I think they're gross, not you.

Once personally and several times through work. My neighbor was basically beating the shit out of his daughter and throwing her like a rag doll in their driveway.

I've called for unrestrained kids in vehicles a lot. I called the other day after watching a guy hit the woman next to him in the truck in front of us. He also stopped driving in the middle of the busy road, got out and walked away. The woman scooted over and drove the truck off after him.
