How much do you pay for private? I pay $25 for half an hour at our pool (on top of our insane membership fee). Just curious how much others pay. I'm sure what we pay is insane.
Fwiw county classes are $50 for 8 classes. But there are 6-10 kids per one teacher for 40 minutes.

Honestly I don't see the appeal of private lessons unless I had a kid 5+ that just wasn't catching on. We always just did group lessons and they worked well. Both my kids had life saving techniques (like how to surface/thread water) at a very young age. Ds is a strong swimmer at 5; dd can swim but not very well yet.

I think I just paid about $50 each for the kids' group lessons - 10 lessons, 30 minutes each, about 6 kids, 2 teachers (for DD's class - DS is still in the parent/child class).
We don't do private but our lessons are no bigger than 4 to 1 and they have multiple floater instructors so classes that actually have 4 enrolled usually have 2 instructors. We do them at a swim school that has an annual fee (I can't remember what it is but it's less than $100 yearly). Classes run year round and I get charged between $80- $90 a month so they are about $20 each.
$25 for private would fair market price here but at DS's age (4) he actually does better and has a way better time if there is at least one more kid in the class. At this age I'm more concerned about pool safety than stroke technique. Having other kids in the class enforces rules about waiting your turn, hanging on the wall when it's not your turn etc.
We've tried group lessons and DD1 has gone sooooo much farther in private. I think she got overwhelmed and intimated by the other kids. Plus it's way better when DH and I aren't i. The water with her and she really wasn't ready for group lessons without a parent. But in the fall we'll go back to group-- I think she'll do better having laid stronger foundation in private classes over the summer. I'm just curious what others pay.
When we did small group, 3:1, ones through a private school they ended up being about $17/lesson but the lessons were 45-55 minutes.
We normally do larger group lessons through the township that are dirt cheap.
But for my kids what has been more important than ratio has been daily lessons for 2-3 weeks in a row. It's getting in the water ever day, at lessons and when we go back to play.
But take that with a grain of salt since all kids are different and I've never done 1:1 lessons.
