One of the things that enrages me about it isn't even in the article. We were so busy watching DOMA in 2013 that the end of the VRA escaped the country's notice. THAT is the fruit of the Republican obsession with gays. The DOMA challenge would have happened, certainly. But the GOP kept persecution of gays front and center for at least a decade, prompting a virulent liberal response, and as a result everyone has been so busy locking horns about that and having to monitor gay marriage that we could barely focus on anything else. Myself included. And now it's too late.
I wish articles like this could tell me what to do, how I can support the cause to remove roadblocks for the voters of a state in which I don't live.
North Carolina also redrew their precincts just prior to the 2012 election, so that predominantly white areas had more voting power. They also eliminated early voting on Sundays, and the speculation is because so many black churches hold voting drives after church.
There is so much corruption in that state, and this board seems to have posts about civil rights and educational issues in the state just about every other week on this board.
Now one thing I can't help but point out is that NC does have early voting for about two weeks prior to the election. That wouldn't help the Marine in this article, but the woman who worked all day had a few weeks prior to the election (including nights and Saturdays) to vote.
