I have three weddings this year (one was in June, 2 in September). I'm trying to figure out what to do with the dresses after the wedding. I had planned to put a couple on eBay, but the one I wore in June is in such bad shape that I am afraid to try to sell it. It was a bit too long and I stepped on it a good bit, especially while dancing. So it has several "pulled" places in it. Not holes, but definitely not in like new shape. I'll make sure the next one is hemmed shorter than this one was.
So what do you do with them? Sell them? Donate them? Hang them in the back of the closet? Use the fabric for crafts (what I'm contemplating right now)?
I saved one. It was a tea-length black one and pretty plain. I would and will actually rewear it.
The other 8 are in a chest in my toyroom for Child and my neices to play dress up with. Fun all around.
I tried to sell a couple at a few garage sales with no takes...even for $5.00. I can't imagine Ebay or the like is worth the hassle either. There's not a huge resale on dresses (or at least in my area) and I'm short so my dresses are pretty tailored, making them useless to the next person.
I put one in the dress up box for my little cousins to play with. Two I have hanging in my closet - there is one that is white but I want to alter it, dye it and have it for other occasions. I love it! The other one I will probably never wear again, but it's full of wonderful memories so I am not ready to get rid of it.
I gave them to my nieces for dress up in and then to my godchild. I wouldn't inflict my friends' questionable taste on disadvantaged youth- they have enough problems.
There's a store near me now that resells. I had a black tie wedding to attend. It was scheduled for outside in the midst of a heatwave. Rather than destroy the good silk dress I'd planned to wear, I bought a consigned BM dress at this shop. Kind of a pale chamois gold long sheath in crepe, very understated. It looked great on and nobody knew it was a $15 dress. Imagine my surprise when the bride entered wearing same dress in a pale sage. She was very gracious under the circumstances.
You could try to sell them. Or donate them. Around here a radio statio sponsors an event called Operation Prom Princess. They give dresses to gives who can't afford them for prom. I would look into something like that in your area.

I donated 5 dresses last year and I have 3 more in the closet. I am waiting until after my next wedding in September and I will be donating them all again.
