We are taking a big family cruise in about a week. My in laws are celebrating their 50th, so all DH's siblings and their kids are going, 26 of us. It's a huge ship, Oasis of the Seas, and we stop at Labadee, Jamaica, and Cozumel. We're flying to the port the night before. I typically only wear sneakers to work out. I think I've worn them twice outside in the last year. Since space is at a premium, I didn't plan on taking them on the cruise. DH thinks I'm nuts. I figure cute shoes for the ship, water shoes/flip flops for the beach at Labadee, water shoes for Jamaica (no kid excursion, grandparents will stay on ship), and we're considering staying on the boat in Cozumel. No need for sneakers right? Am I crazy?
I've never been on a giant cruise but I always pack sneakers when traveling. I don't want to miss out on something because I don't have the proper footwear or deal with ouchy, sore feet.
Labadee will be nothing but beach. In Jamaica we're doing Dunn's River Falls. We've both been to Cozumel a few times, so we're hoping to drop the kids in the kid programs and have some time to ourselves on the boat. Everyone else is going for scuba or snorkeling.
I hadn't thought about the gym on the ship. I may need a workout with all the food I'll be eating. Even if I just want to walk the track, I'll need them. Damn

Seriously it's one week will you really work out? I wouldn't take them, just for space issues.

At those ports I wouldn't. I have brought sneakers when we are going to be doing a lot of walking (like Nassau) but otherwise no.

I wouldn't, but I never wear sneakers unless I'm running. I find them hot and uncomfortable in general and am more comfortable in flip flops for a long day of sight seeing than sneakers.

Are the kid's programs open when the ship is docked? A lot of programs only run when you're at sea.

They are. They have extended time on port days. It looks like an incredible program.
I'll bring them if it looks like I'll have room. I doubt it though. If I have them fine, if I don't then that's one less thing to try to cram into a busy vacation. Diapers, swimsuits and the girls' formal dresses already take up an entire suitcase.
I just found out my SIL booked my girls on the Dunn's River falls excursion. Now DH thinks they should go with us. A 4.5 and 7 year old (very short girls) on a waterfall? I don't think so.
Dont go to the market in labadee. We went over a year ago and my friends and i still talk about how scary it was. Unbelievably pushy.
I've read some scary stories on Cruise Critic too. Is the market separate from the beach area? I'm still pretty clueless on Labadee and just how it is set up.

It's been like 7 years since we've been to Dunns river falls, but I remember it being a bit steep in some places and I don't think I would take the kids.

the beach is really big but you can only swim in one part of it. The market is across the street (where the shuttles park) from the swimming area. It has booths and stuff, you won't wander in there accidently. We sis the cultural tour and that was fun. 45ish minutes on a private beach plus a tour of their houses and you learn some creole.

Nope we are taking the kids to Jamaica in nov and I wouldn't do the falls with them if you paid me. Of course I wouldn't do the falls myself if you paid me way too touristy to me
I've done the falls twice, once at 13 and again about 10 years ago. I enjoyed it and almost our entire group is going. I think only 5 of the 26 are staying behind (3 being my kids). It should be fun. Yeah, were not taking the kids. DH just isn't remembering how slippery and deep some places are.
Is that just a continuous line of wet, drunk tourists? What happens at the top?
You take pictures. Yes it's just a tourist hell hole. There are so many beautiful falls in Jamaica we have been to several. The island itself beyond the whole tourism industry is filled with amazing natural beauty. It is no secret it is my favorite place on earth.
Edit should say hidden falls without lines or holding hands with drunk Americans to get to the top.
