But it's not like she snapped she is defending herself and seriously obnoxious. I hate screaming kids in restutants but this lady was more pissed about the 3 pancakes they ordered for their kid it is so bizarre.
I don't consider a diner a "real" restaurant because we're usually in and out in under 30 minutes. When we go "out" for dinner, it's usually a 60-90 minute thing.

I assumed Denny's was a restaurant too. I mean menus, waitresses equals restaurant. Nice restaurant? Nope
Is a restaurant not an establishment you go to get food someone else has prepared? A diner is not fine dining, but a restaurant none the less. I'd eat at a diner any day before Applebee's.

I'd eat at the diner by my parents' house before I'd eat at any chain restaurant.

The lady sitting behind us at chilies the other day was very pissed off about dd. She whined a few times because her crayons were the wrong color and she was hungry. The lady kept staring at her and grumbling and finally asked to change seats. Lol, it is chilis. Calm the fuck down.
Andddd she actually screamed for an hour tonight and I thought about running away. No way that happened for 40 minutes in public and the parents just sat there. Lol. That didnt happen.
I don't buy this story as presented. I also don't think the kid cried for 40 minutes straight. It seems more possible that the family was there for 40 minutes and the kid loud a majority of the time. I've definitely had meals out where I spent more time dealing with a loud cranky kid than I have eating my food.
Also, I've been in a nice restaurant (dinner for 2 runs around $300). Where some people at the table next to us had a small child (maybe 2) who wasn't even crying, just being loud and banging a spoon and the manager quietly went over and asked the people to keep him quiet or remove him. Without fuss the people packed up and left.
Also, because this is a fun place to drop this story, I got kicked out of a restaurant as a full grown adult lol
I’m the mom whose encounter with an angry Maine diner owner went viral. Here’s what happened. My family wasn't looking for trouble when we stepped into Marcy's Diner.

Photo by Scott Suchman/For the Washington Post Making national news was the last thing we expected on our quiet summer getaway to Maine this week.
One rainy morning, my husband, baby daughter and I went out for breakfast. We had stayed overnight in Portland, a place close to our hearts where my husband spent a lot of time in the Coast Guard. He suggested we grab breakfast at this diner he knew of. We figured it would have quick service and be family friendly.
When we arrived, we were told there would be a 30-minute wait for a table. While not ideal, we knew that on a Saturday morning in a tourist town, there would likely be a wait everywhere.
We finally got a table and ordered food. I ordered pancakes for my daughter, which took about 40 minutes to arrive. At this point, my 21-month-old was getting antsy, as I imagine most would when they have to sit in one place and wait for a long time. She wasn’t having a meltdown, so we decided to stay in our corner booth rather than go outside in the rain. In the noisy diner I didn’t see anyone looking at us or think we were causing a disturbance. (If that had been the case, we would have gladly taken our baby outside.)
I would be so so upset if someone yelled and cussed at my child. I just can't get past that. Like we agree that's never acceptable, right? Unity horse for not screaming and cussing out children?!
The diner owner sounds BSC to me. Even if kid was screaming and being awful, like whut, you own a business and should be professional.
There are 3 sides to every story, his side, her side and somewhere in between is the truth. It would be interesting to hear from the waitress or another patron.

Several diners have spoken out and said the kid cried for 4 minutes not 40

So what did you do? Spill it!
I was eating in a French restaurant and ordered a salad and didn't care for the dressing so I barely touched it. The waitress asked if anything was wrong and I said no but she kept pressing me so I admitted I didn't care for the dressing.
She stormed away and a few minutes later the chef came over and started yelling at me that I had no taste and he didn't need people like me in his restaurant and I needed to leave and never come back.
Turns out waitress and chef were husband/wife. And they were French. The place closed down a few months later and I felt a sense of vindication. I obviously wasn't the only one who didn't like the food.

Oh wow, someone needed a visit from Kitchen Nightmare! One summer in college I worked at a deli making sandwiches etc. If a customer ordered hot food us counter girls would take the order back to the cook. The cook was an odd bird. He demanded we speak in "Pirate" to him and if he didn't like you he would banish you from "his" kitchen and another girl would have to run your orders back. I never got banished and once I was the only one not banished and had to run all orders back despite my limited Pirate speak ( aargh!, aye matey, walk the plank!)
